What would the best combination of race and templates for 5 free LA be for and artificer/erudite gestalt. I was thinking of using a lesser worgest as my race, but I am open to suggestions, thanks

thats right ... Feral Phrenic Pixie .... much better flavor than undead Ghost, better stats also(+6 Dex,+2 Con,+4 Int,+8 Wis,+10 Cha, Fast Healing 2, Darkvision, +7 Natural Armor on top of all the Pixie goodness) ... cuter too

Q 269 Okay, so same creature. It's now got 22 HD for it's creature level. What happens now if I add levels of Fighter and Rogue to it? Does it still progress as if the creature was actually level 1 and cross-classing? What if the creature, if you add a spellcasting class, increases the caster level and the spell progression? Like the ethergaunt which counts as a 13th level wizard, and giving it 2 levels makes it progress to a 15 level wizard with all the spells. What happens when you're an ethergaunt/wizard 7 and want to take an 8th level? What do you do then?

A 269: BAB and saves would start the Epic progression (only racial HD are exempt from that).  Spellcasting is its own progression and so would follow normal rules until you hit the casting ability of a 20th level Wizard or the equivalent for other races.

You wouldn't need to make hide checks then, would you? 

Here is the real question, I think:

How would you ever be able to use Darkstalker to hide from something with scent or tremorsense, if you don't consider visual concealment as sufficient to allow you to make a hide check vs. those things?

If you use Remove Scent, or fly, you don't need to Hide anymore. If you don't, you don't have "concealment" vs. those things. Do we need to make up rules for "scent concealment", like tossing out enough garlic pouches to confuse your enemy enough so that you can hide, but not enough so that he just can't use his Scent ability at all?


So my point is: Yeah, if you have concealment (the visual kind) and Darkstalker, then yes you can hide from something with Tremorsense or whatever. Invisibility gives you concealment. So you can use it to make a hide check vs. those things.

Q 269 What happens to epic creatures saves when they hit 20 HD? Say like an outsider. I know the BAB and skills remain the same as previous (ie Fighter BAB +1 each level), but I don't really see anything on their Fort, Ref, and Will.

If you're assuming that base progressions remain the same instead of switching to epic progressions (I don't know if this is true or not, and I'm a little too sleepy to bother checking), just follow the formulas, base saves do use them.

Strong Save = (level/2)+2, round down.
Weak Save = level/3, round down.

An atropal is huge at 100 HD.  If you restrict it to non-advanced creatures, a prismasaurus has 60 HD.
