"hits with a bite attack" not "deals damage with a bite attack". :) it works.
But my DM disagrees.  I need rules text.

Well... you already have it. Nowhere in the Wolf's entry there's info clarifying what happens if the wolf deals no damage. Even the rules on trip doesn't help you with that....

You have rules text.  The rule says if it hits, it gets to trip.  Damage is irrelevant.

Is there any rules about DR preventing secondary effects?  I think there's rules about poison not triggering if you don't deal damage (due to DR), and I'm assuming this is an errant application of that concept. Maybe if I could find that rule, to specify it only occurs with respect to poisons, etc...

Edit: It appears my DM may be right.

I guess the question becomes, "is a trip attack a 'special effect' of a wolf's bite?"

i would say no, its not a "special effect" of the bite.

it is similar to a feat, where you hit, you can try to trip. you don't hit you can't try to trip.

the special effect of an attack is basically like poison, disease, etc. where you have to pierce the creature's skin, to get to use it.

where as the trip would be like you grabbing a chunk of fur, and attempt to put the creature off balance, where it doesn't matter if the creature took damage or not

Q201: I seem to recall a Freerunning based PrC from some Dragon or other.  It got Ex: Freedom of Movement and I think the ability to make standing jumps as running jumps.  Does anyone remember which Dragon it's in?

Q202  The Hellfire that a Hellfire Warlock uses is considered to be heat, but not actually fire. Since it is technically not fire, would I be correct in assuming that it DOES NOT do extra damage to something with fire vulnerability. like something with the cold subtype for instance?

Quote from: Fiendish Codex II sidebar on p.119
HELLFIRE
Hellfire is the creation of Mephistopheles, archduke of Cania.
Hotter than the hottest flames of any world, hellfire burns with
a white-hot glow and is capable of burning through even the
hardest of substances. Hellfire does not deal fire damage, de-
spite its flames. Even creatures with immunity or resistance to
fire take full normal damage from these hellish flames. Hellfire
also deals full damage to objects, unlike normal fire damage.

So, the damage untyped.

Q: [3.5] My character was raised by Wolves. What kind of classes would best suit him? I can only think of Barbarian, Bear Warrior, and Animal Lord. Anything else?

A 203: Berserk - prestige class from Deities and Demigods.  Get a Rage-like class ability (Fury) that stacks with Rage.  At third level you choose an animal "totem" such as wolf, bear, etc.  You can "wildshape" into your totem animal, or into a human-animal hybrid of your totem.  As it was a 3.0 book, there is no time limit mentioned on the beastshape duration, but at worst your DM would make it one hour per level.

Also look at Primeval (prestige class) from Frostburn.

Fist of the Forest (Complete Champion) might also work.

A dip into Battledancer(dragon compendium), possibly.

Druid also works for getting you a pet wolf and naturey abilities.  Use an ACF to get something instead of spellcasting if you don't want that.

Druid (wolf animal companion), Ranger (wolf animal companion or wildshape for combat style), Savage Bard, Wilderness Rogue, Totem Druid (wolf), Survivalist Fighter, Hunting Monk, Wild Monk, and Wild Defender Ranger. That should about cover it.

As well, if you go with a Ranger and keep your combat style, you can go with the Bear-Wrestling variant.

^Anyspell says the spell you cast w/ it is arcane, therefore not persistable w/ DMM.

Q 205
Wolves get Track as a bonus feat.  Since elves get proficiency in rapiers, bows, and longswords as a racial trait, I think you could argue the bonus Track feat would be a racial trait.

Yeah, but this is a character trait. I don't think that would be able to give me a bonus feat.

Q 205

Are you talking about Pathfinder traits?  That Pathfinder trait means to take another trait that has a racial requirement of the adoptive parents' race, and animals have no such traits.

That is rather unfortunate. I'll have to rethink this then. Even more so for the person who was human, but raised by celestials.
