Hello there, I'm Jon. I joined the boards after listening to several episodes of Brilliant Gameologists, and spent much of my time being a creepy lurker, just reading the various threads. Then I saw some really interesting stuff in the GM Gameology area, so I decided to start posting.
I found the Podcast through rpgpodcast.com, and first listened to episode 13 on the seven words you don't say while gaming. I found it to be really good advice interspersed with a sense of humor I can relate to. All in all, it's an hour I look forward to while walking to work!
Personally, I'm a male in my early 30's. I work as Computer Trainer in my home town of Winnipeg, up in Canada. I've been gaming most of my life, I was first introduced to Basic D&D by a friends' Dad, where I hit a hobgoblin on the head with a mace. From there I was hooked. I played all through school and college, and we cycled through all the standard games, from D&D to Palladium to Word of Darkness, Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, I think the only thing I didn't really try was GURPS.
Four years ago, I found the Forge website, discovered Indie games, and have been playing the hell out of them. Luke Crane's games have been really exciting, so much so that I recorded the first
Phase of my Burning Empires Game.
Recording game play was a lot of fun, even the editing process was a good time! So, I've been thinking of trying my hand at a gaming podcast. I'm still working on that piece, so we'll see.
Outside of gaming I enjoy going out into the world and snapping pictures with my camera, an old Nikon from the mid 80's. I hand develop the film in a darkroom at the local university. There's something about darkrooms and the smell of developer, seeing the photos appear on the light sensitive paper that I really enjoy. Digital cameras are fine, but they take all the fun out of the developing process. It's funny how strange and anachronistic my hobby is these days, kind of like blacksmithing or horseback riding.
I enjoy reading, I just finished "Soon I will be Invincible" by Austin Grossman, and plan on getting my hands on the next Dresden Files book by Jim Butcher. I'm looking at Butcher's other series "Codex Aleria" and considering picking up the first book of the series.
Glendower is the name of a character played by a friend of mine, a Welsh Vampire. He actually managed a Welsh accent and it was very entertaining. I really liked the name, so much so that I adopted it as a forum handle for most of the forums I tend to frequent.
I'm looking forward to posting a few thoughts in the GM Gameology, and hopefully contribute to the conversations that are going on.
