A dragon magazine, it's really only applicable to hafted, flexible and reach weapons such as pole arms, whips, spiked chains. It doesn't apply to stuff likes swords, as much as I wish it would. I've got a gladiator mini that I like to use, and he's got swords that would work as reach weapons.
It pushes the reach of a weapon an extra 10'. Which is handier for things that can threaten adjacent, and good for polearms that are used in the third row in a group (tower sheild + shord sword in 1st row fighting defensively, long spears behind, extending longspears behind that; crossbows behind that; that's a pretty solid layer of offense imo.
The weapon property was in one about Drow; the Mezzoa-something campaign; a character has an extending something. The weapon property is written up on the sidebar. I'm not sure if I still have the issue, but I'll try to look for it.
Also, I've used up 8/11 AoOs this round. Unless we're only going to face 2/round, those things can seriously toss us around.
Ok, looked it up in Google
"Extending Weapon Special Ability Dragon 302 (3.0), p. 84"
http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:JuLzXw0w9OMJ:timjoh.com/dnd/%3Ftype%3DWeapon+extending+D%26D+weapon&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=ca&client=firefox-ahttp://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-3rd-edition-rules/43656-reach-weapon-enchantment.htmlI screwed up, it's +5' more reach for a +1 bonus. Not +10.
So, when the entered the 20' reach mark is when the 1st AoO goes off, 15' is the 2nd, taking a 5' step allows me to make the 3rd.
I won't get to make a 4th, unless the following question is answered: when casting from a wand, would a spell with a full-round action casting time go off at once, or would the user of the wand have to wait until the start of their next round for the spell to activate?
If the Enlarge Person that I cast in the first/buff round took effect, then this discussion is pretty much over. Also, my reach is only 30', not 35' as I thought of before.
[
Edit: I forgot that I cast the buff in the "pre-combat" round. So of course I was Large]
I think that I'll pick up Whip-Daggers next time I build an AoO character; 15' reach base, +5 from fighter levels +5 from the special ability +10 from large size.
Oh, I've actually got a question for the next adventure. Do we have to use the same characters? I want to try out some other builds at high level;
One is a multi-armed, multi-clawed giant invisible Fienish Brute. (extra arms twice, large and Huge Size, probably a monk level to ignore DR; fiendish Invis, reliant on holding one's breath to remain invisible (and with the Con boosts of the Fiendish Brute class, and large and huge size, that could easily be nearly all the time).
An other would be updating my archivist, but it would just be an other persistant DMM self-buffed caster.
The Roland, Bear of the North build that Caelic wrote up is also interesting to me (it's a fighter 2/Cleric 1/Paladin 2/Chameleon 10/Witchhunter 5 build it's also a heavy DMM self-buffer, but I've tried the character at very low levels, and it was pretty resiliant even in it's 1st 5 levels).
