There Can Be Only One - Psionics Thread
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:45:40 PM »
(heh)
I figured a psionics specific thread might be a good idea.
No need to worry here about Psionics is Broken, or also because of early Pun-pun stuff.

Some ideas I was kicking around:
(1) ... recharge set-ups
(2) ... Psychic Chirurgery to acquire all powers
(3) ... Dragon #349 , since there's not alot of official stuff otherwise
(4) ... psi- Artificer , the most powerful and unplayed class

And any psi- else anyone can think of.

What's this about gaining all powers? I really wanna know how that works.

Expanded Knowledge feat is commonly used to do that. Off the top of my mind Erudite's can learn powers and Ardents can gain more mantles to increase their powers known.
"No, no, don't think, Maya." Ritsuko chided. "We will not gattai the Evas or their pilots.

Such thoughts lead inevitably to transformation sequences."

Once a thrallherd hits level 18 he can have them all.  Psychic Churigory + trade out for fresh level 17 psion with different powers known.  Use psychic reformation to eek out a bit more per thrall.

Yeah, Wizards get scrolls ---> to know all spells; and same with Archivist.
Psionic classes need Thought Bottle and Psychic Chirurgery (or whatever the spelling is) and Psychic Reformation, and help.

There's a minor advantage to having a Mantle.
Psions can "only" learn powers on their list, so that's all 8s via Expanded Knowledge, and most 9s via Psyref.
Mantled Classes, can argue with their DM, via Substitute Powers on Mind's Eye Ardent section, that there are more Mantles than there are 9th level Powers, ergo, all 9s can be learned via Psyref with Tap Mantle feat switching.

There's also the minor advantage to having Psychic Chirurgery on your list,
so you don't have to go find someone who has it, or visit your local pSi-AM'S club.

Note: the total # of 9th level powers, let alone the lower level powers, is far far fewer than the # of spells floating around.

Thrallherd and Erudite together can get all Arcane 8s over on to any Psionic wiht 8th level powers. Not being an Erudite, keeps the nifty (M) component eliminator away. If you aren't an Erudite you can use that class feature, but you can use the (spell)power.

Erudites can use PHB2 class feature retraining to switch from Spell to Power, to Mantled, to "Disciplined"; and back !!
I forget what the last one was called.

Wait, there's a way to gain access to all the psionic powers (please explain it to me as you would a 7-year-old if there is)!? I need this for my Yoda build! PsyWar doesn't get any telekenetic or dispel-like powers  :(

Yes you did noob, in post 4. No worries, you're not losing your mind (anymore than you already have).

And as far as a Yoda build, it'd be perfect to go Thrallherd as in the counsel of Jedi. It's things like that which make me want to play psionics more often, but my group doesn't really enjoy it....

Level 18 is really high. I usually end up playing things that start at level 1. I just want to get telekinesis, a dispel, high wis, rod of force, goblin, detect evil (big radius), sense motive, charm any being, etc and all coming from psionics. But he's also a warrior (and I would especially play him as such), which PsyWar/Warmind made since to me for this, but don't work out as far as the powers in their pool go.

edit: expanded knowledge is good.

Just pay an NPC psion to manifest it then.

What are some of the better in general psionic feats to take as a psion? I would check that other forum, but it is having a heaping helping of fael right now.

Depends on the role, but here are the big ones:
Metamorphic Transfer (for metamorphasis into a choker)
Link Power(CP)+Psionic Meditation+hustle power researched off the psywar list.  Manifest hustle, linking a big power and regain focus.  Quicken power and delay power for during TA, but cheaper.
Extend Power: solely for temporal accelleration.
