Building Better Fochlucan Lyrists
« on: January 16, 2010, 09:50:16 PM »
Other than my dual 9 Cheater of Mystra, how can we take advantage of a crappy prereq PrC with an otherwise stupendous chassis?  I mean fuck, full BAB, full dual progression, full bardic progression, 6+int skills, d6 hd (only downer of being an ubergish)  :love  For posterity, here's the CoM :

Cloistered Cleric 3/Wizard 1/Spelldancer 2/Mystic Theurge 2/Arcane Hierophant 2/Fochlucan Lyrist 10

Cheater of Mystra meets archmage, fractional BAB 16, dual 9's, music as a level 10 bard, high skills from chassis and high Int, better hp than a straight wizard or rogue.

EDIT : Spelldancer, not Spellsinger...

This was my favorite Fochlucan Lyrist build:

Incarnate2/Bard3/Soulcaster4/UrPriest1/SublimeChord1/FochluhanLyrist9

Having level 6 incarnum abilities is pretty cool, and makes this much more playable at all levels.  Also, it saves precious feats.  Doesn't get Mystra goodness, but a very elegant and playable build.

Best,
David

Non-PC activities like out of combat healing should be left to wands and NPCs. It's not fun to play a walking wand of CLW. Likewise, being a combat wall is not a viable PC role. A Wall of Force could do that.

-Sort of, but you left out the important note that a Wall of Force does it better.

The most powerful character is the one that you actually get to play.

Bard 2/ Druid 3/ Green Whisperer (Drag #311) 5/ Sublime Chord 1/ Fochluhan Lyrist 9 - Dual 9s just requires a trick to get evasion like Impulse Boots

I would be tempted to move Ur-priest back one and get Incarnate 3 just for the extra essentia capacity.

The problem is that the last 11 levels should be ur priest 1/sublime chord 1/fochlucan lyrist 9 if you want to max out ur-priest and sublime chord.  Likewise, you can't take incarnate earlier because of the skill requirement.

The build is pretty hard to move around.

Best,
David

If you make the last 10 levels: Ur 1/SC 1/FL8 then you still get 9th level spells in both.

Possible break-through : Take the feat (2 actually IIRC) that let you get one rank higher than max, and take Foc Lyr 1 as your 10th character level, allowing Sub Chord at 11 and still full Foc Lyr.  Coupled with Ur-Priest, this is dual 9's.  Base the initial part on Bard, with Spellthief and Spelldancer rolled in, and you should have a stupendous CL and high bardic abilities.  I'll see if I can get a working build up later tonight.

EDIT : Better late than never!

Bard 5/Mindbender 1/Ur-Priest 1/Spelldancer 2/Fochlucan Lyrist 1/Sublime Chord 1/Fochlucan Lyrist 2-10

-Uses the Favored feat to get 13 ranks early and get into FL at 10th.
-Spelldancer progressing Bard.
-CL of 18 SC and 20 Ur-Priest.
-Fractional BAB 16.
-Fractional Saves of 8/15/24.
-Bardic abilities of a level 16 bard.
-Dual 9's
