3.5 Rebuild Poll Part 54: Cosmology
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:41:43 AM »
If you were rebuilding 3.5 would you keep the current setup via Planes, make new ones, or soemthing else?

I actually don't hugely care, because these can be so setting dependent anyway.

Firstly, are the current planes WotC intellectual property?  If so, then I guess we would have to make new planes.  If we modify how alignment works, we would probably want new planes too, seeing as how the outer planes are all heavily alignment-based.

It is campaign specific, and the current ones serve well enough at their purpose.

I voted other just to preserve the balance. I think I'm lawful.

Also I voted other because I at once don't care, enjoy that I've learned the current cosmology to some extent, and welcome creativity. So I'm comfortable with it staying as is, interested in see anything new people come up with, and mostly apathetic because I don't get to go planes-hopping very often.
I don't employ memes. Mass-produced ammunition, even from reputable manufacturers, tends to malfunction on occasion.

An either/or question with, "Yes," as an available response? :love Too tempting. I cannot pass up this opportunity to emulate a certain Vorlon.

As to the poll, Bloody Initiate and I appear to be thinking along the same line.

I personally figure it's campaign specific, barring a 'default cosmology' and especially, WotC copyrights.

Heck, if theres time, making a few alternative cosmologies work too.

I would think that this more or less is a Campaign World issue then a Mechanics issue. This subject and much of the fluff only subjects don't really need to be addressed in a Rebuild of the System. The Mechanics of moving between planes and such with spells or rituals or whatever may deserve getting addressed, such as the Spell Level of Planar Shift or whatever, but again, besides that it is really not necessary to address the matter

It's a mechanical concern to the point that the mechanics assume things about the cosmology (for example, that there's an Ethereal Plane to Ethereal Jaunt into).  That being said, I gather that the planes in the SRD are fair game, but the Outer Planes are Product Identity (and probably references to the old paraelemental and quasielemental planes would be playing with fire too) -- we'd need a whole new set of Outer Planes to replace the poor abused Great Wheel with.  -- Pteryx

I think we can keep the old ones, but not exactly.  As morality is broken severely, the planes would have to change at least a little bit.  One thing I've done is just eliminate the outer planes, and have the 6 elemental planes be the primary tertiary planes (material being primary, ethereal, astral, and shadow being secondary).
