Forgery is opposed by Forgery, so either the general inspects it himself, in which case it probably works unless the general is a lot more of a literary man than we thought, or he hands it off to a lower-level lackey who may or may not be able to tell if it's genuine but will probably have a bonus closer to mine than the general's skill bonuses would be.

It eats up time inspecting the document either way, so that's always useful. I just don't want to delay us much longer.
Ho, now that's an angle I hadn't figured how to use before. Depending on how deeply he chooses to inspect it, that gives us a lot more time to work with.

It might be interesting to set up a contingency plan in case, you know, we ALL die.

Hmm, interesting. I guess I never really looked at forgery very closely even though I've had characters who I've wanted to invest ranks into forgery for.

I would totally be happy to include that as part of the plot. :D

Yeah, I'd say so. I'll go ahead and forge the document so the option to use it exists and leave the decision to Raoul.

Was hoping Head of Vecna would at least chime in... Haven't heard from him in a while.

Look up Dragon #337 page 58 or City of Stormreach page 59. Cloak of Khyber spell.

Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.

A mundane disguise would be best, as it wouldn't be immediately spotted. Raoul's mother and father are both unknown to him, so lying about who they are would be much simpler. Glibness alone might be insufficient though, let's make sure he can lie his ass off. I remember there are a couple of divine spells up to 2nd level as well as a bard spell of 4th level that should enable some pretty fancy tricks. Guidance of the Avatar and Improvisation.
GotA is banned. It's in the house rules.
Quote
Guidance of the Avatar is banned, because it makes most skill checks meaningless. The Dark Chaos feat shuffle, and buying magical location feats and retraining them are both right out also. Other similarly broken things will be banned too. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Damn, even Improvisation?! Gosh darn it all.

Ah well. Pretty sure we can boost the check some other way.

I don't remember what Improvisation does, exactly.

Edit: So it grants a +2/CL boost to a skill usage, and it's 1st level? So a CL 20 wand of Improvisation would cost 15k, and give you a +40? Yeah... not going to allow that... Unless you want every else using that crap as well. And frankly, I don't want to have to do the bookkeeping for that arm's race...

If that's not how it works, let me know. I just looked it up in an online database. So it might not have been accurate.

I guess I should come up with specific rules for what I'd allow/not allow... In general, I think if a spell gives you a bonus to a specific skill, like Gilbness or Eyes of the Avoral, I'll probably allow it. If it gives you a monstrous bonus to a very open-ended list of things, like Guidance of the Avatar, I probably won't.

Um, no, it's not that at all.

The Improvisation I'm thinking of is in... Spell Compendium or Complete Scoundrel, I think. It gives you a pool of "luck points" equal to 2x your caster level that you can "spend" in [1/2 caster level] increments as an immediate action to gain a luck bonus on a skill, and it's 4th level (so no wands). Damned if I can remember duration, but I think it was in hours/level. I think it's persistable, too (personal range). Even if we could slash the price in half, it's still above the limit.

It was originally 5th level (I think), but reduced to 1st in SC. You're right that the cap is 1/2 CL, though. So a CL20 wand would cost 15k, and give you at most a +10 bonus to an attack, skill, or ability check, for up to 4 such rolls within the duration (1 rnd/CL, stadard action casting time). It's a pretty good buff, but I guess not too overpowered (probably should be at least 2nd level, though...). So I think I'll allow that one.

In the Tome rules, they basically reduce the amount of bonus types dramatically, though (which I like, but hadn't really strictly enforced). So I won't allow stacking a bunch of different effects with different bonus types onto the same thing to uber-buff it off the random number generator... I wish I'd laid this out more plainly in the beginning...
