Let's Play Dress Up!
« on: June 25, 2009, 01:54:28 AM »
This is sorta a brainstorming thread and I had no idea where to put it.

I'm having the hardest time deciding what costume I should make for Gencon. It's coming up fast, and I'm still without a costume.

My first idea (which I WAS super excited about until I realized that it was WAY overdone) was Harley Quinn. It was too perfect! The costume was simple enough to make in spandex without a pattern, plus we share a bunch of similiarities. She has blonde hair, I have blonde hair, she has a psych degree, I have a psych degree, she has a psycho boyfriend, I have a... You get the idea.  :D
I also was thinking about redoing the "elf" costume that I had done at Megacon a few years back. Since AC threw out my leather bikini, I was planning on redoing it all in furs and pelts... and seeing where that got me... I don't know.

This picture will forever haunt you.  0:)
I'm also up for suggestions.  I'm not dying my hair or buying a wig, so whatever costume you suggest, make sure that it can have a blonde version of it.  :D

So, what should I wear to Gencon?

People usually think that I've lost my mind. I haven't lost it, I know exactly where it is: the gutter.

Far...it'll get you far... :)

I think they're doing this Dragonlance thing this year (25 years and all that), so maybe a Laurana would be appropriate?

Prime32's suggestion is officially seconded.
Gendou Ikari is basically Gregory House in Kaminashades. This is FACT.

Harley is often drawn with orange hair too.

Anyway, while Carol Danvers is a decent choice, I'd like to suggest another comic book character: Black Canary. Not sure how overdone that act is in the US, but I am quite sure Ms Marvel and the other iconic blonde of Marvel, Invisible Woman, are decently popular picks.

Black Canary is also a good one.

I notice we got a big comic book bias the so-far-suggested list...

Black Canary is awesome :D

But go with her previous costume, not her current one...(I'm sure some of the DC/comics-in-general guys have some pics and know what I'm talking about...)

I wanted to keep the theme, because I was too lazy to come up with anything too original. And comics are cool.

You can be Green Arrow.

While you're listing blondes don't forget the possibility of characters who cover their hair (like Harley).

To put this on a completely different track: Ino Yamanaka. I doubt BimR is a fan, and I'm pretty sure she's overdone, but just to get you thinking in different directions.

BimR, I've got some pelts and odds and ends, bits of bone you can use if you want to go with that idea.

I promise, I'm all done with using them as chewtoys. :D

LOL There have been a lot of good (and hilarious) suggestions. Thanks so much!

Ms. Marvel? :shrug List some stuff you like.

I like DnD-druids and rangers especially... and elves.

I like comic book chicks-they're hot. Why wouldn't I like them? (truth be told I've never actually faithfully read a comic book series, I pay more attention to the art)

I like video games-no, I haven't played FF. I don't plan on it either. My life is too busy for that! But I loved Zelda-any and all of them. And I've always wanted to cosplay as Sheik but I have no idea how to go about doing that. And there's no way I'm cosplaying as Cami. I've thought about that too. I'm too shy to show my butt.  :flirt

This is so hard. There's not really a whole lot that I don't like.

I think what it's going to come down to is 1) costs 2) how quickly the costume can be made/thrown together for the con 3) how much work my friend is willing to put into the costume.

I know that the fur bikini thing will be the cheapest and easiest to make. But I'm also longing to make an actual, recognizeable costume! So far I'm loving the Black Canary. It's a pretty simple design (I think). I just would have to figure out the boots...
Oh, and Ms Marvel is hot. I don't think I have enough time to get that costume made and assembled, but damn, she's hot.

I'm going to have to make my decision in a few days so that he and I can get started on it. I'm excited and writhing from the fact that I have to make this "big" decision.

People usually think that I've lost my mind. I haven't lost it, I know exactly where it is: the gutter.

My body is a temple. That is why I make chocolate sacrifices in it every day.

But I loved Zelda-any and all of them.
You could probably get a costume that looks like Zelda's from the animated series (Super Mario Bros. Super Show) pretty easily/cheaply.
