Melee combat tweak for reducing die rolls.
« on: October 29, 2011, 09:11:42 AM »
Inspiration struck.

You know, how the BAB row reads like this:
+20/+15/+10/+5,
and it's seen as the iterative bonus thingy.
So, for ease of readability, say it's a/b/c/d.
So, what if:
a is attack bonus as per normal
b is a flat damage bonus to melee and ranged attacs
c is an increase to the critical threat range
and d is an increase to the critical multiplier.

This should work nicely for players. TWF and extra attacks could be handled by flatly multiplying weapon damage on a successful hit.

As a downside, combat gets a bit more random, as multiple rolls tend to average out the hits and misses. However, this should really boost damage at the upper end melee.

Thoughts?

Would you need to use a full-round action the gain these extra benefits?  Would there exist a way to attack multiple enemies in one round?  This seems to really screw over sneak attack.
