After half a miles journey, the group makes it to the area of calm. In the center of a 1000-yd radius area of icy rock and still air is a large castle. The sudden change change in climate suggests there is magic keeping the foul weather at bay. The castle has four large towers-one at a corner and appears to be made of a very unusual rock.

Kerasot, you're on the ground. Give me a Balance check. I'll also want marching order and how you plan to gain entry.
Anyone curious about the substance of the castle can make a Knowledge(Architecture and Engineering) check or a check with a skill that you can convince me might cover rocks(just make the roll and say what kind of check)-although the DC gets higher the further it is away from Know(A&E). Kerasot can make a Know(A&E) check for this untrained, but only to recognize it. The stone exists on his home plane(but isn't common enough for a planes check to help anyone else).

It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

Know:Architecture and Engineering = 18  Grr, rolled a 3.  I'm sure I'm in back or pretty close to it.

I'm scouting out the front hiding as I go (accelerated, remaining 60' up and 20' ahead of the party).  If I need checks let me know.  Also, every other 3 rounds I go to 20' behind the party by just stopping to make sure nothings coming from behind.  Not to worried about anything coming from there though, but want to be safe.

Well since the bird is in the air, I'll be in the middle, and let Kerasot take the lead.

21 on knowledge (A&E) got a 19!!

13 on balance, if i didn't have my full plate on, if i did, 10

Kerasot puts his armor back on as soon as he regroups with the party, and then takes the lead.

This one must ask this party again, will this party go for strenght or stealth, this group is nearing the point where the decision will be made for it if it does not make the decision.  this one is in favor of a mix of both, finding a subtle entryway, and going strong down there until we reach the throneroom.  This group's priority should be to find the statue and free it, even if this party encounters the ice witch, for this one believes that should we free the fire lord, this mission will complete itself for us.

I favor stealth, I do not like getting hit with things.  It hurts.  We could do that though, I get to remain unharmed, and you all get to use that big heavy armor of yours.

I agree that finding a sublte entrance and going in strong and quickly will be to our advantage. Caelali could you scout out such an entrance without being detected?

I can try, but this gigantic blot of black that is my hiding medium will likely draw attention.

On a related note, I would actually like to, uh, change one of my levels.  And a feat of mine.  I found a nifty trick that means I don't need a Deeper Darkness cast on me, but it requires a feat and a level to do.  Would this be possible?  Eventually?

I too would prefer something subtle.  I would rather not waste my spells on whatever patrols are set up uneccessarily.

Kerasot: The castle is made out of Obdurium, which is even stronger than Adamantine. Obdurium has Hardness 30 and 60 hit points/inch of thickness.

Jurkalall: It looks familiar, and you almost remember what it is when the thought escapes you.

dman: PM me what you're looking at and we'll resolve this by PM.

Apart from the main entrance, the only other visible entrances from this angle are windows in the two visible towers.
If the castle follows the same design in the back as in the front, the back towers will also have windows.

Also, there may be an entrance from the room of one of the towers if this castle follows the norm for similar ones on the Prime.

The rear of the castle appeared much like the front except that there was a small service gate instead of a large main gate with a drawbridge over what had previously been a moat of molten lava.

Also behind was castle was large structure, appearing to be an oversized stable by the looks of it. You notice that there is no roof over the stabling part, as if whatever mounts had been there had been of the flying kind.

The height of the castle wall was the same and the rear towers also have a few windows and balconies.

It's not full daylight, so you can go ahead and make your Hide in Plain Sight check, dman, unless you plan on using deeper darkness?

Well, somehow I think it'd be hard to hide a 60' radius blob of darkness.  So I'll hide up to the place trying to see what kinds of guard positions they have.  Check: I'm being kinda cautious, so yeah.  The  25 is MS, the 19 spot, the 17 listen. (1d20 23=40, 1d20 25=40, 1d20 19=32, 1d20 17=31)

Question: what's the terrain like up to the castle?

Quietly the raptoran sneaks up to get a better view of the castle that they will be infiltrating.  Before going, he relays the information of the basic layout of the castle.

We might be able to get in quietly from the stables, it looks as if I might be able to sneak the rest of you in one at a time, and you can hide in the hay or something until we're all there.  I'm going to get a closer look at the back service entrance though.  Might find a better way in there.

Kazzzaahk nods toward Caelali, and watches as the bird-man flies off in search of a quiet entrance. An open door is an easy entrance.

Jurkalall shrugs.  I care not which entrance we use so long as it is lightly patrolled.

As the Raptoran peeks into the open stable door, he notices something stange.
Initiative roll for dman, just in case. ;)
But...what roller are we using again?  Invisible Castle?
IC should work.
Inside the stable you see the bones of several large (huge size category) winged creatures with long tails and necks. Your guess from encounters with similar (though smaller) creatures is that these are the remains of dragons. (Knowledge arcana would tell you what type)

Walking out from a stable is a creature which looks like this...but appears to be made of solid ice. It does not appear to notice you.

The raptoran describes the creature's beaky face, hooked hands, icy body and general construct-like behavior. I'll need Dungeoneering for the base creature and Arcana for the template.
