Aundair
« on: March 08, 2011, 01:14:02 PM »
Mishann sailed forth from Eston, bound for Thronehold and the start of her reign. To her surprise a Thrane blockade was waiting for her. Having little in the way of military vessels in her escort, she divided her ships; some remained in the slim hope of breaking through the blockade, while the rest made land south of Flamekeep. Only after landing did she learn of the combined Thrane and Brelish force arrayed against her.

Deep in enemy territory, and outnumbered five to one, she made a break for Aundair, only to be cut off by the larger force. Before her enemies were able to strike though, Wrogar and his Wardens of the Wood appeared to better balance the scales.

With little left to do, both sides sent forth heralds, exchanged challenges, and then about noon, did the fighting truly start.

Mishann had decided to let the enemy come to her, preferring to be ready to repel an early cavalry charge, Wrogar respected his sister’s decision and set is troops accordingly, and together they prepared to make their foe to pay dearly for victory during the coming fight.

Kargos Hammerstar - Left Flank

The sun is high, and the sky clear, as the thunderous sound of thousands of feet come closer. There are many people around you, most of which are elves. Those on the front lines are wielding shield and sword, with heavy armor, while those behind them are a mix of leathers and robes. To your right you can see the great form of Wrogar, standing at least a head above most of his troops. To your left are his cavalry, the powerful centaurs. As the sound gets closer you start to be able to make out individuals, then armaments, then crest, and then finally their eyes. All the while you can hear those in command shouting orders, trying to keep everyone from panicking. Then the fight is upon you with a loud clash.

As the two sides meet, a large dust cloud envelopes the front lines.

The dust from the charge clears enough for you to see the front lines have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of foes. Even your skilled elven allies could not hold back the tide, fighting odds of close to 4-to-1. The enemies lack of discipline, skill, and equipment plays to your favor, but will it be enough?

All around, there are masses of ill equipped humans fighting elves. Every now and again one of their attacks lands a hit, which flares with flame. There is a large group of the humans gathered around a better armored soldier wielding a crossbow. His voice seems to carry across the whole battlefield and it sounds like he is preaching about the Silver Flame.

Directly in front of you an elf falls to the assaults of three of the levies, who quickly look for another foe, like you.
Roll inti, you will use it for this whole encounter.
Initiative 1d20+1=10
Seeing the treacherous Thranites before him, Kargos made sure his trusted axe, a gift from his father many years ago, and his shield were readied for the fourth time since joining the field of battle, and prepared to enter the swirling maelstrom of combat.
I rolled lower than them on initiative, so not a whole lot I can do just yet besides: Stance - Martial Spirit, Granted Maneuvers - Stone Bones, Vanguard Strike.

Wonderful, Vanguard Strike. The one maneuver I know that wouldn't be immediately useful to me in this fight.

1 moves to O8 and attacks
2 charges to O9 and attacks
3 moves to O10 and attacks

1d20+1=7, 1d6+1=7 miss

As they catch sight of Kargos, the middle one makes a mad dash for him, waving his, spear about, while the other two approach with mild caution. All three try in futility to hit the dwarf with their shoddy weapons, but there is determination on their faces.
1d20+4=10, 1d10+5=6, attacking 1 with Stone Bones, power attack for 1
Deftly stepping out of the way of the desperate attacks, Kargos was calmed by the knowledge he was more in control of himself than his foes. Testing the waters of his opponents defenses, he slipped into the easy rhythm and launched an attack, though his axe was unable to find purchase through their armor. Kargos wasn't upset, he knew he was better, and what mattered was they would go down.
Granted maneuver this round: Charging Minotaur
1d20+1=14, 1d6+1=3 miss
1d20+1=5, 1d6+1=7 miss
The axe misses the levy, as it grazes off his club.

The trio tried again to hit the dwarf, but his defenses were proving too much for them, but their determination appeared to hold, for now.
*Sigh*. Nat 1. 1d20+4=5, 1d10+5=8
Trying to divide his attention between the three men fighting against him, and his elven allies, Kargos nearly had his axe knocked from his hands by another parry by his target's club. I need to focus on what's going on around me right now, the elves can take care of themselves. Kargos's face turned dour as he focused his attention back to the more pressing threat.
Five foot step to P8, attack enemy 2. 1d20+4=22, 1d10+5=7. I wish my damage roll was as good as my attack roll :(
Focused on his immediate foes, Kargos let loose a mighty bellow into his enemies face as he shuffled sideways, sending his axe striking home through the opening created by the Thranites surprise. Most combatants underestimate the volume of a dwarven battlecry up close. Kargos knew this one would never get the chance to do so again, as he could already feel the battle momentum swinging back towards him. He shouted words of encouragement to his ally off to the side, knowing that preserving battlefield morale was important for hard engagements like these.
Unless E2 looks much worse off than E1, I'm giving E1 the benefit of my Martial Spirit stance, and healing him 2 hit points. If E2 is much worse, then I step to P10 instead and grant E2 the 2 points of healing.

A hit, of course.

E1 is the greater wounded of the two. Don't forget your granted.

3, 5 foot steps to P9, following you.

1d20+1=8, 1d6+1=3 miss
1d20+1=10, 1d6+1=4 miss
1d20+1=20, 1d6+1=6
hit!
Those nearest the dwarf were startled by the outburst, barely able to raise their weapons in retaliation as one of their own was struck. The farthest among them was able to hold it together, enough to strike a blow on him.
Attacking 2 again, Crusader's strike, no power attack, 1d20+5=23, 1d10+4=12, forgot to add 1 from furious counterstrike to damage before rolling, so that should be 13 damage. Healed from CS 1d6+1=7
Gritting his teeth as one of the three slipped an attack passed his shield, Kargos bellowed again and lashed out with his axe, taking pleasure in the fleshy thud accompanying his axe blow and using it to ignore the pain from the gash the third soldier just gave him. He continued trying to encourage his wounded ally.
heal E1 another 2 HP, I'm back to full, even though my damage pool delayed all but 1 of it so it was irrelevant so far.

No more grantable maneuvers, so new granted series of maneuvers: Charging minotaur, Vanguard Strike

Very nice hit. He is good and dead.

1d20+1=6, 1d6+1=4 miss
1d20+1=4, 1d6+1=6
miss
The struck soldier collapsed, and didn't get up. His companions stood & stared in horror at their fallen comrade before lashing out in desperation.

The nearest elf takes what should have been only a minor scrape, but as the blade hit, fire flared from it. The elf recoiled from the pain, dodging the other attacks.

Kargos began laughing, clearly with the intent to unnerve his remaining foes. "Your heads are next!" he bellowed, gesturing to their fallen comrade's caved in helmet with his shield before slashing the one to his left with his axe.
Power attack number 1, using Martial Spirit to heal E1 2 hp if I hit: 1d20+4=22, 1d10+5=14 FUCK YES! About time I rolled turbo-awesome.
"Run while you can, little man!" Kargos bellowed at the remaining foe facing him while his axe sunk deeply into the wounded soldier's side, crushing ribs with a sickening cracking sound and launching the body to the side. "You're next!"

Looking over to his elven comrade who had been struck by the burst of fire, "And then I'm coming for you!" following up all of this with another bout of mad cackling. Let them think me battle-mad, it will make it all the easier to deal with them if they are reluctant to attack me.
Attacking 3, since he's the only target left next to me, power attacking for 1, no maneuver being used: 1d20+4=24, 1d10+5=10 Critical threat. Confirmation roll: 1d20+4=16, 2d10+10=17. I imagine a 16 confirms, so total damage is 27. E1 gets healed another 2 points via Martial Spirit. Move to Q4.
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.
Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die,
One for the Wizard on his dark throne
In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.
1d20+2=21(-1 cause I confused enemy type) successful opposed roll

1d20+1=8, 1d6+1=3 miss
1d20+1=18, 1d6+1=6 miss
1d20+1=20, 1d6+1=2 hit!

With agility that surprised even the levy, he was able to just avoid the inhuman charge. Before Kargos could recover, the levy attacked with its curved blade, scoring a minor wound.

Even though one had stopped attack him, the slightly singed elf kept up his strong defenses, dodging another two attacks.
"You think I'm talking about breaking the rules?"
"No I'm just trying to figure out how far you want them bent."
