Also, Phaedrus, your mule can't 5ft step to attack the hellhound, it's in K10 now, not in K11 anymore (as posted here: http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=7070.msg237567#msg237567)
Gah... freakin' spoilers... Well, it hit with the first attack. Can I keep that one?
Yeah, ofcourse :)

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

As long as she doesn't end adjacent to the hell hound, I think she has a decent chance of avoiding her attackers by turning invisible and then dismounting towards the hobgoblin. He won't know she's actually right next to him (unless he has scent or something weird), and the hell hound would have to spend a move action to get her direction using its scent. To actually attack her immediately, they'd have to just guess which square she's in (or get a Listen check 20 points higher than her Move Silently check to pinpoint her, with a -5 penalty for being in combat).

Edit: Not there! M9 or N8. If you hop off right next to the hell hound, it can automatically pinpoint you and attack. If you don't, it has to either move around randomly to try and find you, or spend a move action to get your direction.

I wasn't paying attention to the hellhounds movement, sorry.

Question: Why would the spellcaster want to be next to a hobgoblin?

Question: Why would the spellcaster want to be next to a hobgoblin?
Because she understands the scent ability? And knows hobgoblins don't typically have it?

Anyway, that's my suggestion. Sorry for being pushy. It's your character. :P

Hey, here's what I think is an even better idea. Have the horse 5' step backwards into the mist, turn invisible, and then dismount IN FRONT OF IT. They'll sure as hell never expect that.  :lol As long as you don't wind up right next to the hound, they should have a hell of a time finding you I think.

Square M or N 11 for that, I guess. That way, you won't be adjacent to either enemy, so even if the hobgoblin has Scent they still won't easily know where you went.

Changing the map is easier with maptool. :P

Edit: Ok... FINAL OFFER... have Goldflower move to L12 after becoming invisible. That way, anyone that wants to attack her will suffer the -4 penalty from Kalal's stance. YES I AM CRAZY! :P

So, aside from the fact that Nanshork now hates horses with the fiery intensity of a thousand suns, any other thoughts about this first encounter so far? :)

Really? I think they did pretty well.

I mean, sure, that Demon didn't hit much (at least partially due to sucky rolls IIRC), but it did absorb 2 or 3 rounds worth of full attacks and prevent some tactical movement.

Will level 6 give your character a big boost?

Oh they didn't do horrible, I just had higher expectations (mainly for the demon).  My crab kicked your ass.   :P

I'm AFB so I know my summons will get a boost but I think it's just longer duration until later.

So far, so good. I'm actually really liking the mobility that being mounted offers. I think I'll definitely get enough Prestige Paladin levels for the mount and take that Holy Mount feat, although it is kind of a tough choice as there are so many other feats that I want, and it will mean losing at least one more caster level and also spending resources on buffing the mount and keeping it alive...

I think I'm going to take Rapid Breath soon. Getting a free Power Surge on every breath will be huge.

And I didn't realize how small the range on the breath was. I can't wait till level 11 when it increases.  :P

(Is there an item that increases it? The feat for it has a pretty hefty cost)

All I can think of would be the metabreath feat. Typically, breath weapons don't get much support from items. If there were, man my Dragon Shaman could have used something like that in one of the RL games I used to play. :D
