: Prime32 February 22, 2009, 05:41:51 PM
Someone needs to start a completely over-the-top, anime-style game. Possibly using these (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3578.0) house rules. I tried twice. I failed twice.

Okay, woodenbandman is helping out with the DMing. The rules are in this thread (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3578.0).

Two words: Triple Gestalt.

 :lmao
: Re: We need something awesome
: veekie February 22, 2009, 07:55:10 PM
Well, depending if you actually give a damn about coherent plot......
If you could spend action points to outright ignore the rules(terms and conditions apply, costs relative to level of insanity), and earn action points if it was done in a spectacular manner...

Though, Venn, I think regular Gestalt is sufficient for most anime stereotypes, anything you can't do with double gestalt, a triple gestalt doesn't really add much.
: Re: We need something awesome
: VennDygrem February 22, 2009, 08:08:14 PM
That's the point though; It's just over the top and needlessly complex, just like most anime characters. :)
: Re: We need something awesome
: veekie February 22, 2009, 08:30:54 PM
Hence action point rule breakery suggestion, that covers all bases, with the dual gestalt handling the 'always on' power.

Trigestalt with an NPC class that powers up from the NPC class to a trigestalt in combat(transformation optional, spiffy outfit compulsory, see Super Sentai, One Winged Angel and Magical Girl) would be pretty amusing. Especially coexisting with NPC/tier3/4 dual gestalt who don't need to power up.
: Re: We need something awesome
: VennDygrem February 22, 2009, 08:50:00 PM
Hmm, the ultimate example of rule-breakery: Gurren-Lagann.

"Hrrrrrn.... one action point left.... Spend it to make my robot fuse with the entire planet! You can't defeat us, because we've got the fifth element: Heart!

I can see your example working quite well using just that one show as an example. :D
: Re: We need something awesome
: woodenbandman February 22, 2009, 11:55:54 PM
I agree with the Triple Gestalt sentiment. Except make it a no magic game, and make everyone who's a PC quad-gestalt, with one of the gestalt sides mandatory as Incarnate, with options for PrCs that advance incarnum, such as the Ironsoul Forgemaster (and that's really it). That takes care of the magic items. Then everyone takes Vow of Poverty. Except that VoP grants normal feats instead of stupid shitty exalted feats. THEN everyone is required to take 10 levels of Kensai AND gets a free Weapon of Legacy(totally free, no feats involved) which they can apply the Kensai bonuses to. You can spread the Kensai over all of your class levels. Then you've got 50 more levels to just go fuckin' nuts with, meaning that you can take Fighter20 on one side for a ton of feats (or just do the standard Fighter2/Warblade 18 or Warblade or Crusader or whatever), then you take the other 30 levels and put them directly into your ass.

Then you make everyone use the Favored Soul over Cleric, and ban the Wizard class in favor of Sorceror and Psion. So they've obviously taken 20 levels there. 10 levels left which you can use to take some other class that you like, maybe Bard or Rogue.

This should give you an "Anime as fuck" feeling. All the characters can have magical items that are really just extensions of themselves, such as Inu-Yasha's Tetsusaiga or the Guyver's Guyver suit. As a final note, make everyone's magic stick to a theme, such as Fire or Geasses or Telekinesis. Use 50 Point Buy.

:D You'd need to work your way up to the "Combine with planet" point. Accumulate Awesome with minimum rules flexing, then you burn all 9001 action points in one shot to fuse with the universe. :D

Also, forget the Kensai levels, all you need is really free Incarnum Gestalt + an automatically magic weapon/wand/armor/thing(the X of Legacy, sans costs), drop regular magic items. Theme is easy to deal with, flavor being mutable. The high levels thing isn't strictly necessary though, unless you are specifically gunning for late end shonen power levels.

It's more fun to watch a superhero grow into his power. From just silly to truely maniac.

Could do a "build your favorite character" game, or are you just going for the ridiculous feel? I'd be down with a tri-gestalt game w. anime base.

Writing plotlines for it is easy; just take the Sailor moon/dragon ball/yuyu hakusho/etc pattern: Good guy gets powers (in the beginning, it can be lame-ish, but still semi cool). Bad guy from  the great beyond (read: not earth/home planet) comes, obviously more powerful than good guy can imagine. Good guy unlocks inner reserves of strength; no longer underdog. Bad guy dies w/ big explosion and light show to put the Killers and the Prodigy to shame (possible hair color change). Rinse, repeat. Eventually, group of bad guys/original baddie gets revived, comes back, hero kicks ass again.

All bad guys have to have names/hair color themed around something, like precious stones or food groups or something...

I've heard of a game system that would be good for this, though never had the privilege of playing it. It's called Feng Shui (roughly pronounced "Fung Shway").

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_Shui_(role-playing_game)

Excerpt:
In 1999 Pyramid magazine named Feng Shui on its list of "The Millennium's Best Role-playing Games". Editor Scott Haring said that "Feng Shui found the way to do over-the-top cinematic roleplaying without turning it into an exercise in dice rolling and power trips".

What I've heard about the game is that instead of getting a huge penalty to doing something ridiculous and crazy, you instead get a bonus. I wonder if anyone else has heard of it or played it?

That, or someone figures out how to convert Gundams into Armored Core stats, then convert that into a Pen-and-Paper Giant Mecha game.

Problem next is who would host such a thing. :D
And which particular style and play system. Unless it's houseruled D&D/d20 or free, not everyone will have the books.

Also, another one, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Anime fanfic edition. Massively Multiplayer Crossover ftw. God bless the DM with the nutsack to try to steer that though.

Let's pare that down. Gestalt, with free meldshaping from a restricted list and a free legacy weapon. Free VoP with no restriction on alignment or feat choice. No Vancian classes - you can take a cleric dip for domain powers, but you don't gain spellcasting. Either no treasure, or low treasure with magic items reflavoured as innate abilities. Also, the "trope bonuses" from here (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3578.0).

I could go with that. :)
(EDIT: House rules thread edited to incorporate added awesomeness)

Now that would be awesome.

: Re: We need something awesome
: woodenbandman February 23, 2009, 12:08:00 PM
Free VoP + Legacy weapon seems sensible, that eliminates the necessary Kensai part of the gestalt, so normal gestalt with free meldshaping sounds like a good one. How are you going to determine what melds are known? Also, you could allow Bonus Essentia to be taken more than once, maybe, because the sheer number of bonus feat traffic is going to be insane.

I call in on this. I might even be interested in DMing or Co-DMing it, if you're interested, Prime.

So Druid does what, lose all spellcasting? Or do they just get a spontaneous list, maybe a bit like a Spirit Shaman? Druid//Totemist//Swordsage = WIN. With a barbarian dip for multigrab and greater multigrab, and Bloodtalons.

Ooh, also, give every character the Diehard feat for free, and make a flaw that removes the diehard feat and gives something else. Only the weakest of anime characters don't have diehard. Also, there's got to be a mechanic for a character to break out of anything/heal themselves... Maybe make it 1 action point to activate an Iron Heart surge effect, and 1 action point to activate a Heal effect? And then everyone can use those, but only when it's most dramatic.

Druid is powerful enough already, even without spellcasting.

Ooh, also, give every character the Diehard feat for free, and make a flaw that removes the diehard feat and gives something else. Only the weakest of anime characters don't have diehard.
I think I'll leave Diehard as it is, but increase negative hp to equal half your normal hp or your Con score, whichever is higher. Diehard then significantly increases your staying power, but you're still disabled.

Also, there's got to be a mechanic for a character to break out of anything/heal themselves... Maybe make it 1 action point to activate an Iron Heart surge effect, and 1 action point to activate a Heal effect? And then everyone can use those, but only when it's most dramatic.
That could be covered by expending an action point for Emulate Feat to gain Martial Study (Iron Heart Surge). I'll try to work something in though.

: Re: We need something awesome

Well, liberal use and abuse of action points for all sorts of insanity should cover unnatural levels of badassery. As long as you are living up the dream(I'd say following your defining tropes earn you action points, as well as sheer over the topness, spending action points in a way counter to your defining tropes can cost double or something), you are as tough as you need to be. Want a 1 mile radius fireball? Widen Spell+ say 8 action points, each time stacking the doubling effect. Add fancy incantation(if thats your trope), long cast time, magic circles, whatever, to earn back those action points as you burn em. Same can be applied to melee, ignoring damage, etc.

I'd say, all vancians become spontaneous casters for this, spells prepared double as spell slots per day(so you have for example, 4 prepared level 5 spells you can pick from, and 4 level 5 slots, any level 5 slot can be used to zap any level 5 spell you prepped that day, until you run outta slots). Simple patch.

The other one goes:

Currently, the former is winning, though the latter may gain ground as my level of fatigue due to bad sleeping rythms increases.

The simplest way to run that would be a Fate/stay night or Shaman King deal - heroes have been summoned from throughout the multiverse, but they have lost strength in the process, which will return over time.

I'm wondering why people are trying to reinvent the wheel? There exist roleplaying systems for this sort of thing that can make just as much awesome without going through the headache of trying to adding 100 houserules to an already complex system like D&D.

Or unless they are cyberspace swashbucklers, they probably don't have the books either. It's a compromise between ease of play and actually having players.

Though I suppose GURPS should be common enough....

Well, depending if you want a 'Master' NPC over the character, but the premise is easy enough. Called to a certain day and age, the various heroes fall to earth like a meteor shower as portals fill the skies, at the same time, some of the locals wake to find themselves with newfound abilities.

Scientists(the regular, not the mad variety) tear their hair out over daily breaches of common sense, physical laws, and the property damage. The reconstruction industry enjoys a booming trade in the wake of the massive and frequent repairs.

Kinda overdoing it.  I was planning to run Sailor Moon/Ranma/pokemon with limited houserules and partial gestalt.

It's very doable.  I'm planning on doing Sailor moon as Incarnum, and Ranma as ToB, with maybe a druid variant replacing Pokemon.  Need anime that fit the TOM classes though....   An maybe psionics.  No regular magic, only "school" casters (Dread Necro/Warmage for Slayers), and Beguiler and Healer as well.

Dragonball Z would require triple gestalt, but dragonball z ceases to be fun because when you can blow up the plante as a full round action, it just seems kinda pointless.
: Re: We need something awesome
: Flay Crimsonwind February 23, 2009, 10:51:40 PM
Dragonball wouldn't be that hard to do; it's just in Z/GT that it gets ridiculous. Then again, about ten thousand bad guys, each literally more powerful than the last by an unimaginable degree, manage to wind up on earth. Just limit the options, dragonball would be fine. Pokemon just seems like "how can I get six familiars" or some kind of average-joe summoner.

I'm completely on board with those rules... I've been wanting to try out a character for a while now...  :devil

How would ability scores be figured? Some rediculously high point buy? 52 perhaps?

Also, I think a triple gestalt would be cool, allowing one of the tracks to hold the NPC levels which compensate for LA.

I don't have M&M, though, and don't really want to bother learning another ruleset. I think the magic system could be reasonably imitated with 4e, though. Say, Nanoha as Zap Cleric or Starlock, Fate as (Assault) Swordmage, Vita and Signum as Fighters (Battlerager and Two-Handed Weapon Talent respectively, I'd say) etc.
Alternatively, remember that DMM poster on the motivators thread?

Nanoha: Human (Intermediate air elemental bloodline) Warlock/hellfire warlock/legacy champion with a cleric dip

Nice. I'd probably make Vita a Charger build, possibly also with Cleric and Ordained Champion levels. I'm not sure how to handle Graf Eisen though, other than using improvised weapon tables when he (it?) becomes too large to normally wield.

As for nonlethal damage: Meh, that's an easily implemented houserule. With 4th ed, you could just say that all living creatures simply fall unconscious at 0 hp instead of dying. Rules are as normal for nonliving ones, natch. :D

Dwarf Ordained Champion. Divine Might feat. Brutal Throw. Either Destruction Devotion or Strength Devotion (I can't remember which is which). Possibly a barbarian dip ("YOU MADE ME LOSE MY HAAAAT!!!"). Major titan bloodline (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/bloodlines.htm#titan), and a warhammer with the sizing enchantment.

Hayate is a warmage. Shamal is an Adept.

I don't really know much about M&M - from what I saw in that GitP game it was very cinematic, with mode changes and improvised spells flying everywhere, but that could have been just the group.

Dream Dwarf, that is - Those don't get a Cha loss. My first hunch was Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker, to really drive home the "don't mess with her hat" point. :D

Hayate should totally use the Locate City Bomb. Many of her spells are ice-related anyway, so Snowcasting wouldn't be too out of place.

For the record, Destruction Devotion lets you reduce an opponents Armor or Nat Armor bonus to AC every time you hit them. Str Devotion gives you a slam attack, the ability to bypass hardness, and makes your attacks count as adamantine for piercing DR. I'd go with the latter, personally. There's nothing they can't destroy, after all.

Incidentally, I think the Nanoha one could have been a warmage 19/sanctified one of Kord 1 casting a Sudden Enlarged Sudden Widened meteor swarm with Holy Fire. That's four 80ft-radius spreads of 6d6+Int divine damage with a range of 2320ft.

EDIT: Replace five levels of warmage with recaster and take the Practiced Spellcaster and Extra Edge feats. Four 160ft-radius spreads of 6d6+5+Int divine damage with a range of 2,400ft. :D

The Locate City bomb is for Lina Inverse. Besides, Hayate doesn't know any low-level spells. :p

Flay Crimsonwind
skydragonknight?

That's eight who expressed interest and another six I'm not sure of. We'll probably need to break up into groups, like Strat's Arhosa campaign (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?board=66.0). That could just make things cooler, though. (Wizards and Mecha pilots vs. Shinigami and Alchemists go! :D)

I could be a factotum 8/exemplar 10/something 2//truenamer 20

With a major artifact like Death Note to emulate Kira :D
: Re: We need something awesome
: Shadowhunter February 24, 2009, 02:29:10 PM
If it ends up being some conversion/adaption of D&D 3.5, I'm interested.
Otherwise, I neither have the books nor the time to learn a new ruleset.

But I have to say, triple gestalt sounds tasty :devil
: Re: We need something awesome

You don't need a major artifact for that. Just get a use-activated wondrous item of Crisis of Life. :D

I'd be definitely interested in a Nanoha group if it's some 3.5 or 4e variation.
: Re: We need something awesome
: skydragonknight February 24, 2009, 02:49:51 PM
skydragonknight?

Starting level is a very important factor for me, especially in PbP games. If you plan on starting below level 6, I would at least want accelerated experience and not the traditional D&D experience rules. This is going to be anime-like game anyway, and in anime characters typically reach their levels of power much quicker than you'd expect.

Oh, and I'm guessing I'll be the one with psychic powers. :P
: Re: We need something awesome
: Flay Crimsonwind February 24, 2009, 03:05:14 PM
I'll be naruto /sarcasm

Actually, some sort of bleach character might be cool; just stack on ToB, boost a weapon to all hellish levels of hell, and maybe some spellcasting if I want the kido that badly.

Alternatively, it might be easier to make Haruhara Haruko in this game, with a little bard cohort whom I can use to summon shit from! Oh the options! God, gonna have to go hunting and figure out what to make...
: Re: We need something awesome
: BowenSilverclaw February 24, 2009, 03:11:00 PM
Depending on several factors, these look like fun to me:
-Isamu Alva Dyson (Macross Plus)
-Ozma Lee (Macross Frontier)
-Heero Yuy (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing)
-Sousuke Sagara (Full Metal Panic!)
-Ikki Tenryou + Metabee (Medabots) (Yeah, I liked it, bite me :P)
-Batou (Ghost in the Shell)

And more,
just listed a couple of robot-related candidates for now :D

And Avatar isn't even an anime. :eh If you like Death Note, watch Code Geass. Oh, and you want to play a guy who can kill anyone from long distance with no save? Sorry, I banned the wizard class. :p

I was thinking of starting at level 6, with level-ups after every two or three encounters.

Thanks Bowen, was wondering who'd bring up Gundam Wing :D Though Hmmm, which one which one? Wing Zero? I was always more of a fan of Deathscythe and Heavyarms. Screw Sandrock. But how?.... And Avatar isn't even an anime.

It isn't?
It is heavily inspired by anime (particuarly the work of Hayao Miyazaki), and the setting is Eastern, but it's a Western cartoon.

If you like Death Note, watch Code Geass.

Just to know: What is happening there?
It's similar to Death Note, but more fast-paced. Plus it has robots, and the dub is decent. First op here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0btAyMESc0&fmt=18). (Oh, and the main character is a cross between Light Yagami and Batman)

Wing Zero is tempting ofcourse...

Screw Sandrock, that thing never really filled a niche of it's own. Shenlong/Altron was okay, but not my style. Gonna be Wing Zero, Wing, Deathscythe or Heavyarms for me...

Last to have a lack of diversity though and Heavyarms can run out of ammo really fast :P

Which one? The one with the book, followed around by a supernatural being?

Anyway, it might be easier to run this if we forget the soulmeld thing and just reflavour magic items to represent innate abilities (you can "sell" abilties for full price, and they still take up body slots). Half the standard "gold" per level.

2 progressions, and possibly meldshaping as well. (either that or this (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3687.msg117364#msg117364)).

I was also thinking of using this instead of VoP (since its awkward to constantly look up and adapt, and some people don't have the BoED anyway):
Gain a feat at every level, rather than every third level.
At every even level, increase a physical ability score by 1. At every odd level, increase a mental ability score by 1.
At 4th level, all your attacks are +1. Additional +1 per four levels.
At 10th level your attacks gain an alignment descriptor.
+1 bonus on saving throws per six levels.
Add half your level to your AC.
There's still a free legacy item for everyone.

: Re: We need something awesome

Incidentally, I think the Nanoha one could have been a warmage 19/sanctified one of Kord 1 casting a Sudden Enlarged Sudden Widened meteor swarm with Holy Fire. That's four 80ft-radius spreads of 6d6+Int divine damage with a range of 2320ft.

EDIT: Replace five levels of warmage with recaster and take the Practiced Spellcaster and Extra Edge feats. Four 160ft-radius spreads of 6d6+5+Int divine damage with a range of 2,400ft. :D
Taking a look at the relevant sources, could you explain how the latter works? AFAIK, Widen can't be applied to the same spell twice, and by RAW, it would seem that you can't even apply other metamagic feats to a spell you're Sudden Widening with Recaster's Sudden Metamagic.

As for meldshaping/magic items, I'm in favor of meldshaping. :D Half WbL? Eww. ;)

The recaster's sculpting ability lets you change the base radius of meteor swarm to 80ft before Widening.

Half WbL... and you always have exactly the gear you want for minimal cost, and likewise can change it without having it pay through the nose.

You can sell things for the same amount you got them for, and you can buy or sell any (non-broken) item whenever you level up. Artificers are the only ones who can craft their own stuff - they basically get normal WbL because of the reduced costs, and their items are actual items rather than innate powers, with all the pros and cons of that. (You can hand them to allies, but they can be lost or destroyed)

As for those who think that MnM is hard, it actually simplifies things since the only dice you'll ever need would be a d20 and literally everything revolves around point buy.

Dude, you're a warlock. You can invoke flight WHENEVER! And even if you have a better (?) invocation to use, we get a feat every level, easy buying of an extra invocation. Why do you have a jump check at all? It's very superman of you, I guess. :P

Frik, is anyone else having a really hard time deciding builds with this? I'm tempted to go swordsage for the Desert wind, no matter how weak it may be... and pyrokineticist... and dervish dancer...?

Too complicated. Just need to pick an anime series. So, we've got some sort of psychic, a mecha, what's the next obvious choice... an Alien. I am FLCL, I guess, HAHAHA! Now, how to get Cha to Ac x4.... Can a swordsage replace all wis abilities reliance to CHA reliance? :D
: Re: We need something awesome

It's more the fact that he can fire off two eldritch blasts (using quicken SLA), and stab someone with two mindblades, at the same time, pretty much.

I didn't even have to work at it, Thri Kreen get's +34 right out of the box. Then he's got +5 from strength, 5 ranks for synergy (+2) with balance/tumble (can't remember the exact relationship but I know 15 points in the three acrobatic skills gives +7 before abilities) and then Leaps and Bounds (+6). He also, because of LA, doesn't have access to Fell Flight yet.

Yuuno, first showing, pwnt by the end of the scene.
Zafira, completely forgotten as a humanoid in StrikerS
Erio, "The guy who gets hit a lot" and "skirmishers shouldn't try to meatshield"

I can't decide what to play, since I love DN, but I haven't seen that much anime, and Kira may be very hard to emulate while still not breaking the game...
This is kind of on the other end of the scale to Death Note. Even if it could be made balanced, Kira wouldn't really fit into a party of guys who can shoot homing lasers out their ears.
: Re: We need something awesome
: veekie February 25, 2009, 11:27:46 AM
DN is a bit more on the cerebral side, Kira is basically doing Scry and Die, as far as his powers are concerned.

Maybe a rebalanced truenamer for Kira?

Also, I don't want to allow FMI. Not sure how Prime feels about it, but A you have like 48 points for point buy, meaning you can put 16s in almost everything, and B FMI will make the Rogues/Factotums/Warblades WAAAY too strong with such a high point buy, You'll literally break 500 HP.

And reflavored to write peoples name into a book, with bad effects...

Death with no save would be to powerful...
The other side of gestalt is still hard, though

What other animes have you seen then?
Kira could be crudely bastardised into some kind of Archivist/rebalanced Truenamer. But a lot of the more awesome moments simply are unlikely to show up.

When is this thing getting started though? If theres enough time, I might as well try to rush this pet project(attention span of a gnat, me, theres a whole graveyard of semiabandoned pet projects in my folders) to completion after the exams next week. Summoner class. :D

I've seen DN, Avatar (but I was explained that it is an anime, but why are they on anime series pages, then?), 100 episodes of Naruto, some episodes of Pokemon long ago, and these that I not am sure if they are anime or not (and I haven't seen all of the episodes, not even close): Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh (GX), I think that was all...
: Re: We need something awesome
: veekie February 25, 2009, 11:48:19 AM
Naruto/Avatar(it's not strictly speaking an anime because it's not Made In Japan, but similar enough as to make no difference, as far as game inspirations go) pretty standard fare with ToB and a dash of psionics, but a Beyblade(legacy weapon!) trick weapon user could be amusing, as is a Yu-Gi-Oh vancian caster, with cards in place of incantations.

That sounds actually very cool.

Now I want to mix Death Note with Yu-Gi-Oh...

And also, both the Death Note True Namer variant and Wizard variant should be based on Int...

I think we'll need to make new base classes/variants for this, but it is so cool that it is worth it...
: Re: We need something awesome

Well, if the wizard has his spells currently available determined at random from his prepared list...I'd expect him to drop a tier, at least. So theres Gestalt in it for ya, and Truenamer is low enough to 'click' with anything short of Tier 1, right?

Only thing that is bad is that I can't fit Factotum into all of this...

I really wanted those 3 levels for BoB...

Or maybe I can remove something...

Am I allowed to mix two anime series?

And does this seem reasonable?

Wizard Variant: Card user
Benefit:
When you start a combat, you get 5 of your prepared spells to use. At each following round, you get another.
With this Wizard variant, you must always perpare exactly 40 spells, and they are split up equal of each spell level you can cast. At the start of each encounter, all of your spells become fresh again. You cannot prepare a single spell more than three times. (If you use a metamagic feat, it does still count against the total of that spell level.)

Maybe I'll have to make some special spells too, that helps gaining more spells to use?

That looks...remarkably neat, maybe repost that in the House Rules or Inspiration, section too. :D
Action Points in play right?
Do what Yugi always does, burn an action point to draw the best card for the moment. Or to make it do something it really shouldn't have been able to(metamagic).
: Re: We need something awesome
: Aldgar February 25, 2009, 12:16:54 PM
Interested.

If noone called dibs already, I'm envisioning something related to TTGL.

Character concept would involve an Warforged Egoist/SomethingwithfullBaB(Crusader? Warblade?) who exchanges his first level bonus feat for the change shape ability(Found in the Expanded Classes, part 2 article here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070314a)).

This would allow him to maintain a human appearance most of the time, but go *MECHA* nearly at will, by using expansion+change shape+various other buffs to assume the form of a large(or bigger) giant robot, whose appearance can then be further customized for cool points as necessity requires.

If you've got Untapped Potential, you could look into the Phenotype Impressionist PrC, and some of the Shaper exclusive powers(theres powers to 'wear' an Astral Construct).

Okay, I just thought I saw it mentioned somewhere that you only should use one theme...

Start a new thread for that.

Do I really need to?

Bear in mind that standard wizards are banned.

So I'll have to make it a Sorcerer variant? Wizard fits much better, and with the changes of possibly not having what you need (and also maybe just have level 0 crap) removes some of the power...

Yu-Gi-Oh is much about preparing your deck...

You do know that Pot of Greed has been banned for years, right? :P

Pot of Avarice isn't :P It is just limited to one (or two, but I think it is one) :D

: Re: We need something awesome

As far as plot goes, I'm better with coming up with broad ideas than specifics (kinda like George Lucas I suppose :p). I suggest that everyone PMs one NPC with a moderately-detailed backstory unconnected to their character, along with a reason someone might oppose that NPC.

For instance, you might describe a character who transforms into a superhero by using a "Fire Crystal", opposed by someone who is trying to steal it.

Once everyone has submitted them, the DMs will modify or combine characters and create new ones (in the above example, the enemy might be expanded into an organisation which seeks out magic items and destroys them). Have fun seeing your NPC show up in yours or another's game, not knowing what other secrets they may be hiding or how they have been tied into the rest of the plot.

What do you think?
: Re: We need something awesome
: veekie February 25, 2009, 09:33:21 PM
Seems handy enough, attach tropes to these NPCs as well?

I'm either doing a sort of classic badass samurai/shinigami thing, or I'm making Haruko'S Brother (FLCL, which if any of you haven't used drugs before, seeing this will let you experience acid; it's on youtube WOOT!). See, the Samurai guy is a straightforward Int/Dex based build that's real simple, three classes plenty of power.

FLCL charrie gets a bit more... difficult, but is probably more fun to play in the long run...

Can I houserule a wildshape variant that changes my gender, Ranma1/2 style.  It'd be strictly worse the the core druid's wildshape, but it'd be funny as heck.  Otherwise my only real option for a genderbender character is changeling..... *sigh*

Just take a level of warshaper and a level of monk. Monk says that you can "use any part of the body to make natural attacks." Warshaper allows you to "grow a set of natural weapons," or make them 1 size larger than they normally are. Voila! grow boobs at will!

Funny, but not what I'm looking for.  Ranma literally turns from a guy into a girl.  With full biological function, down to the ovaries.  Actually changeling isn't bad, it just loses me the extra point of essentia and bonus feat from Azurin.

With its trigger conditions, Ranma's gender-swapping brings inconveniences about equal to its benefits, so you can have it for free.

That would be excellent, though i'm playing with the idea of being Akane and having Ranma as a thrall,  So he'd be an Azurin with the Jusenkyo template (and i can use an incarnum ring to steal his point of essentia- GLEE!).  I figure he gets -2 STR +2 DEX as a girl.

Too late to join ?

Was thinking of a catfolk artificier (yet again).

Edit: Wielding a big wrench as a staff, and planning to construct a alchemist's X cannon (Cold iron tube with a rune of launch item at the bottom), maybe even enhancing it with a rune of true strike for a laser guided RPF. (when I say rune, I mean wand in form of a rune drawn on a flat stone).

Heh, and the wrench can turn into a half wrench half staff that can shoot lightning from the tip once a bit of leveling up happens, and as an ultimate, it could expand around me as to provide with a slight bonus to AC, a melee weapon in my left hand and a ranged weapon in my right hand that shoots orbs at people.

Shonen jump go !

Rather than an artificer, you could try this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZoybnGcUmA&fmt=18): :D (lol at "SCRAP NI NARE!")

You know, I see combat as being something like
"Fool! You cannot stand against the power of Gundam-Lagann!"
"Oh yeah? Load Cartridge! Bankai!"
"You triggered my trap card!"
"Oh no, Pikachu, return! Looks like I'll have to go Super Saiyan 9 instead!"
"Not so fast!  I am the bone of my sword"
"Hah! You'll never stand up to the might of my Raikinjetsu no Jutsu!"
"A lightning attack?  Just as planned."
Actually that's just a distraction so we can have our disgustingly cute animal critter steal the macguffin while you are occupied.
And have the not so cute one vaporise you while you're raging at the cute one.
But didn't you find it a little suspicious that that mutant squirrel just happened to be hanging around your Ordinary High School?  Pasquirlio!  Combine with The Artifact and finish these fools!
Quick Optimus, use the buster cannon before they can fuse! ROLL OUT!
Antimatter Cannon, coordinates lock, fire before the fools notice they're all in one spot!
I can't let you do that, Star Fox.
You and what army?!
Darkness from twilight, crimson from blood that flows...
Buried in the flow of time... in thy great name, I pledge myself to darkness!
Those who oppose us shall be destroyed by the power you and I possess!
