Indiana Jones?
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:48:39 PM »
A few guys and I are going to take turns dm'ing different one-dose adventures, and as such I've decided to go for a Indiana Jones mock-up of a character. Trouble is, I have a feeling there's a better way to go about this than the way I have. Here are the overall rules for the "campaign":

Quote
Characters will be generated using the partial gestalt tier system with a few changes. Basically, as gestalt, but:

If you are a :
Wizard, Cleric, Druid, Archivist, Artificer, Erudite, Sorcerer, Favored Soul, Psion, Wilder - no gestalt

Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Crusader, Bard, Swordsage, Binder, Duskblade, Factotum, Warblade, Psychic Warrior, Rogue, Barbarian, Warlock, Warmage, Scout, Ranger, Hexblade, Adept, Spellthief, Marshal, Shadowcaster, Dragonfire Adept, Dragon Shaman, Lurk - you can gestalt yourlevels with an NPC class of your choice (Magewright, Adept, Expert, Commoner, or Warrior) or Level Adjustment

Fighter, Monk, Ninja, Healer, Swashbuckler, Soulknife, Expert, Samurai, Paladin, Knight, Aristocrat, Warrior, Commoner, Adept, Magewright - you may gestalt with any other class in this category, or with Racial HD, or with Level adjustment

Prestige classes always count as the first category (i.e. no gestalt) Racial HD that grant caster levels count the same as a sorcerer/psion (ie, no gestalt). If there is a class you want to play that isn't on this list, ask about it and I will decide which tier it goes in.

Other shit:
32 point buy.
7th Level
Max HP at first then 3/4 HD after.
Standard wealth for 7th (19,000 gp, don't care how you spend it.)
Racial HD and LA must all be on the same side (and must be used starting at first level, if you have HD or LA, with LA going first). No combining LA races and LA templates - pick one.
No ridiculous cheese (Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold, Vow of Poverty, etc)
Books allowed: All except Savage Species, 3.0 Books, BoED, BoVD. Mind's Eye/Class Chronicles/other official WotC web enhancements may be allowable upon request
Fast Feats: Feats at levels 1,2,4,6 (no flaws or traits allowed)
Ignore alignment and multiclassing restrictions.

We're also using the Fractional Base Bonuses from Unearthed Arcana pg. 73. If need be I can explain that out here as well. Also, and obviously, there are firearms in the games.

There aren't many choices when it comes to NPC classes. I can see warrior, though--Indy's pretty good at fighting for a professor.

Personally, I'd go for LA instead of warrior levels.  Focusing on things which are easy to reflavor, like dark or lolth touched or draconic.

EDIT: Is there a limit of one template only, or just one of "race with LA" or "template with LA"?

Honestly, I really have no clue how to work LA. Maybe you could help me out with that? As far as I can tell there's no limits as you describe. The only reason I took the Warrior gestalt is to get full BAB.

The limit is what ever level your coming in at.
Say you are making a 5th level character. That means between the LA, and class levels, it cant be higher then 5. So like if you were to have a
Feral(LA-1) human, Fighter 4. That would be a 5th level character. You could even go LA 4, x-class 1 or any combo..

Since you can have level adjustment on one side of the gestalt, you're able to pick up seven points of it.

That increase to BAB is going to give you a +2 to hit and an additional attack.  The extra attack is nice, but you'll get that extra attack at level 8 anyway from your factotum BAB, and +7 LA can get you a metric boatload of ability bonuses that render the +2 to hit irrelevant..
