Pimp my Copper! (Min/Maxing Buying/Selling Power)
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:43:13 PM »
Alright.

The goal is to find multiple ways of getting free equipment one can boost in value via Disciple of Mammon Enhance Value ability (BoVD), and then resell using the feat "Merchant" from Practical Enchanter (If you don't know what this does, don't worry, just need high charisma to pull it off nicely, otherwise, worry about min maxing Appraise :D)

Other ways of producing very nice coin without major cheese is appreciated.

Try to do this -WITHOUT- abusing spells to mass produce gold. Spells that grant bonuses to skills (Diplomacy, Appraise, Sense Motive and the like) are good.

Also, looking to max out Disarming since DoM gets a +4 bonus to do it!

Alliance Merchant (Player's guide to kalamar) (requires: non-good, 10 ranks appraise, 6 ranks diplomacy, 8 ranks gather info, iron will and a 20k or more annual business income)
First level ability: Fool's gold(ex): You can make inferior products seem good and good items seem exceptional.  You sell products for twice their normal value.

It's a pretty hilarious class (you get a pet assassin as a class feature, the ability to out-sneak sneak attacking opponents, and "Foolproof Pilfering(ex)").

Well, actually called "Kingdoms of Kalamar: Player's guide".  It's WotC licensed early 3e (like ravenloft).  Has some nice mechanics like scaling spells, and a decent but not excellent integration of setting with crunch.

Player's Guide to Faerun 41 has Mercantile Background, giving you more for your money.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Mercantile Background gives you bang for your buck!

You sell stuff at 75% instead of 50%, and once a month you can buy something at 75% cost.

You also get 300 gp more at CharGen.

Only problem is that it only applies to magical items, and it's a regional feat.

This feat basically means that if you craft items to sell on the market, you gain money!

edit: Curse you Endarire!
[spoiler]Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Just a random thought, but ... hells I wouldn't have known about either Archangels daughter or Saeomons niece if I didn't happen to be on these threads.
Sounds fine to me.
probably over on "Off-topic".
might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post.

This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu".

Like ravenloft, has it lost its license?

I think they discontinued it when they switched to 3.5, since nobody bought it.  It is fortunate indeed that Wizards does not have a policy of ex-post-facto unpublishing, or my legacy books would have disintegrated before my eyes.

The Diplomacy skill got a writeup for haggling, either in Complete Adventurer or Complete Scoundrel.

Power of Faerun has some stuff in it, and the DMG 2 has stuff on PCs owning businesses, as well.

A gygaxian dungeon is like the world's most messed up game show.

Behind door number one: INSTANT DEATH!
Behind door number 2: A magic crown!
Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY!
They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.
Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die,
One for the Wizard on his dark throne
In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.

How about sweat shops?  Armies of folks with craft/profession skills put to work for you.

Leadership, Undead Leadership, Thrallherd (psionic PrC), or various ways of obtaining cohorts.

Undead or Warforged to avoid the cost of food... and to work 3 shifts per day.

1 HD skeletons stacked like cordwood before casting Awaken Undead (area of effect).

Transmute mundane objects into other mundane objects, with limits like, they must be made of similar materials, a 50% limit on size increase, and a max value increase of 2x.

Also i'm pretty sure they didn't realize that increasing something's worth by 'double the original worth' results in a net x3 in price.

I used it for transforming scorpion venom into... bigger scorpion venom.

I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!
