If you're using FF1 as your baseline, here's a rough analog of the white magic spells.  They don't all correspond to the same spell level, but this is just an idea of the types of things you'd want to have.  You'd have to talk to your DM about getting some of the arcane spells on there like Invisibility, but this is a pretty close match.  Everything but Assay Spell Resistance is core.

CURE -   Cure Light Wounds
FOG  -   Obscuring Mist or Fog Cloud
HARM -   Turn Undead mechanic? Mass Cure Light Wounds (only on undead)
RUSE -   Shield of Faith or Entropic Shield?

ALIT -   Energy Resistance or Protection from Energy
INVS -   Invisibility
LAMP -   Remove Blindness
MUTE -   Silence

AFIR -   Energy Resistance or Protection from Energy
CUR2 -   Cure Moderate Wounds
HEAL -   Mass Cure Light Wounds
HRM2 -   Turn Undead mechanic? Mass Cure Moderate Wounds (only on undead)

AICE -   Energy Resistance or Protection from Energy
AMUT -   Dispel Magic?
FEAR -   Fear, Cause Fear, or Doom
PURE -   Neutralize Poison

CUR3 -   Cure Serious Wounds
HEL2 -   Mass Cure Moderate Wounds
HRM3 -   Turn Undead mechanic? Mass Cure Serious Wounds (only on undead)
LIFE -   Raise Dead

EXIT -   Word of Recall
FOG2 -   Fog Cloud or Solid Fog?
INV2 -   Greater Invisibility
SOFT -   Stone to Flesh or Break Enchantment

ARUB -   Death Ward
CUR4 -   Heal
HEL3 -   Mass Cure Serious Wounds
HRM4 -   Turn Undead mechanic? Mass Cure Critical Wounds (only on undead)

FADE -   Fire Storm or Storm of Vengeance
LIF2 -   Resurrection or True Resurrection
WALL -   Greater Spell Immunity
XFER -   Assay Spell Resistance?

That writer was secretly out to get you and all the other Ghost Progression pimps out there.

And, by WotC's reckoning, doesn't 1 9th level spell that counters something mean it's balanced?

FOG  -   by name you would think fog, but doesn't this boost ac so something like mage armor or shield.
RUSE -   I think this fits Blur.

AMUT -  Joyful Noise
FEAR -   Fear

CUR3 -   Cure critical Wounds

FOG2 -   weaker version of holy star (only ac bonus and doesn't discharge).
INV2 -   greater blink.

ARUB -   Death Ward (Mass)
CUR4 -   Heal
HEL3 -   Mass Cure Critical Wounds
HRM4 -  Undeath to Death maybe

FADE/HOLY - Uncapped Consecrated or Purified Chain Lightning.
LIF2 -   True Resurrection at this level.
XFER -   Assay Spell Resistance+curse of impending blades?

I also think you should be able to add haste and slow as those also seem to move into the realm of white magic/time magic.

In my humble opinion, CO is haberdashery. Some say we're mad, but we can all agree we're hatters. Yes, we have potential to make very sophisticated hats, very fancy hats, be they dark or light. But the truth is that the color of the hat does not come from the group of us - our community doesn't directly produce hats. We simply give average head circumferences, list current fashion trends, and point out some shiny, obscure baubles to add to the latest hat line.

Wow, fast was my favorite spell for black mages.  Doubled the number of attacks for the fighter.

The clay golem had fast and the stone golem had both fast and slow or slo2 (which were also black mage spells I believe that never (at least for me) seemed to work).

How far can we go looking for spells that were given to white mages?  I only know up to VI(III).
