Melee Glass Canon help needed please
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:21:35 AM »
Hey guys, im helping out my DM to make some bad guys.
He asked me to make a melee glass canon, he doesnt care what classes/race/template it is.

The only requirements he told me are these:

    *  Lots of Damage
    * feck all hit points (a lower con helps with this)
    * Sneaky (Move silently & hide)
    * Rogue like abilities (open locks, climb, bluff etc)
    * AC can be either high or low, its the health pool that the 'glass' part comes from.

A one level rogue dip will cover all the rogue abilities and skills. We play tha once a skill is a class skill, its always a class skill for you even if you multiclass.

So what do you guys think? I was considering a barbarian with a rogue dip?

Any race / templates are allowed. The character is to be level 10, any LA is just to be subtracted from the 10.

Anything you guys can recommend?

Barbarians tend to be pretty tough, though.  You might consider making the barbarian undead so he's got no Con score and rage doesn't make him tougher.  If you're not too enamored with sneak attack, consider going with feat rogue and taking the feat chain up to Shock Trooper -- should boost his damage output by a lot (particularly with Leap Attack) by knocking his AC into the gutter, so he loses hp fast.  You can worsen his protection and boost his damage output at the same time if you can also get Karmic Strike in there.
"We managed to make an NPC puke an undead monster."
"That sounds like a victory to me."

Here is an example of what I meant.

necropolitan orc whirling frenzy spirit lion totem barbarian 2/feat rogue 4/fighter 4

Attributes (28 point buy)
Str: 24 (16 +4 racial +2 levels +2 enhancement)
Dex: 16
Con: -- (8 -> nonability racial)
Int: 13 (15 -2 racial)
Wis: 6 (8 -2 racial)
Cha: 6 (8 -2 racial)

Hit Dice: 10d12 (65 hp)
Skill Points: 65 (at least 8 must be spent on Jump for Leap Attack)

Level   Class   BAB   Base Saves   Features and Feats
1    BAR 1   +1   +2/+0/+0   Illiteracy, Rage 1/day, Extra Rage
2    BAR 2   +2   +3/+0/+0   Uncanny Dodge
3    ROG 1   +2   +3/+2/+0   Trapfinding, Extend Rage, Dodge (rogue bonus)
4    ROG 2   +3   +3/+3/+0   Evasion, Power Attack (rogue bonus)
5    ROG 3   +4   +4/+3/+1   Trap Sense +1
6    ROG 4   +5   +4/+4/+1   Improved Uncanny Dodge, Leap Attack, Combat Expertise (rogue bonus)
7    FTR 1   +6/+1   +6/+4/+1   Combat Reflexes (fighter bonus)
8    FTR 2   +7/+2   +7/+4/+1   Improved Bull Rush (fighter bonus)
9    FTR 3   +8/+3   +7/+5/+2   Karmic Strike
10    FTR 4   +9/+4   +8/+5/+2   Shock Trooper (fighter bonus)

GEAR (16,000 gp as given on Table 4-23: NPC Gear Value for 10th-level NPC)
+2 falchion (8,375 gp)
gauntlets of ogre power (4,000 gp)
masterwork chain shirt (250 gp)
masterwork thieves' tools (100 gp)
4 oils of keen edge (3,000 gp)
275 gp left over to buy pants or hookers or something

At least 3 attacks per round (up to 7 if he's under attack), decent damage output and low AC and hp.  Damage output goes way the hell up and the bottom falls out of AC when using Shock Trooper.  Being a sneaky type he should be able to use one of his oils before he initiates combat.

Is pouncing at +20/+20/+15 (2d4+49 15-20/x2) with AC 8 and 65 hp glass cannony enough?  AC 4 if he wants to hit back any time he's hit.

Use Races of Faerun and...
Rogue 3/Bard 2/Incarnate 2/Warrior Skald 3.  Season to taste.
Winning an argument on the internet is like winning in the Special Olympics.  You won, but you're still retarded.

I made a Handbook!?

That looks perfect man!  :D
The Ac 4 is pretty damn funny, but the DM did tell me he wants him to be a hard hitting glass cannon. Ya can really get any more glassy that AC 4 and 65 HP.

I will just make sure my own character in the game doesnt hit the dude or he will go down in one good hit, lol.
The rest will have some fun with him i think :-D

Forgot to list the Pounce among class features (for giving up Fast Movement, whole point of spirit lion totem), but you get the idea.  And yeah, you really don't want to hit a character like that in melee if you can help it.

Oh i meant i wont have my character hit him or the barbarian guy would die right away,, hehe!
That would ruin the fun having him drop straight away, i will leave it to the rest of the group to take him down.

Cheers for posting the build dude! It fit perfectly with what i was looking for.
Now to research archers caus theys the next one i gotta make! lol

One thing to keep in mind about this guy if you've got rules sticklers around, is I have not subtracted the 3,000 gp fee for becoming a necropolitan from his wealth.  I figure a detail like that isn't a big deal for an NPC that probably won't survive more than 2 combats (might not even survive the first one), but it might matter to those you play with.
