Go Malphas all the way. The scouting is incredible (at least in my experience... with your DM... who the fuck knows?), and you also get +1d6 Sudden Strike damage.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

I think we need to get kevin_video a special title concerning his DMs. I swear...
He deserves some recognition for having the worst gaming luck in the known universe.

Also your first level feat has to be improved binding. It lets you bind second level vestiges at level 1. A good first level vestige would be Dahlver-Nar for first level survivability or Savnok who gives you full plate armor at level 1, Malphas is good if you want to do scouting for your party.
Yeah, my DM has his moments. However, he's still fair and willing to bend over backwards for you a lot of them time. I mean, i just got 30k worth of free stuff and a graft that I originally thought was kind of useless, but turns out will be required to save the world. Take the good with the bad.

Yeah I read about improved binding. That definitely seemed like a good one. I had considered that maybe the expel vestige to be my other one instead of taking it at lvl 3 like all the examples did. And it'll depend on what the others go with if I take Dahlver-Nar or Malphas. I'm not concerned with full plate.

If I had a dollar for every beaten woman who used that exact same excuse about their man, I could buy a couple hundred powerball tickets.

Not funny. Especially considering my girlfriend left such a man. :p They're two completely different things.

But no, he's not all bad. Every DM has their issue, and that's his. I don't have more horror stories for Sunday games because we're on a break for the summer so everyone can enjoy their vacation time. But he can be a lot worse. I just haven't played enough games, or bothered to bitch and moan as much.

Quote from: Wizards of the Coast
Summon Alien: You can summon any creature from the summon monster list that a sorcerer of your level could summon. Any creature you summon with this ability gains the pseudonatural template. Thus, at 10th level you could summon any creature from the summon monster I-V list. When you reach 14th level, you can summon any creature from the summon monster I-VII list. You can only summon creatures that can be affected by the pseudonatural template. Once you have used this ability, you cannot do so again for 5 rounds.
"Level" in this case is character level, not binder level. The description never says "binder level", unlike other vestiges, so this was not a mistake.

You were looking for a good ability tied to character level? I think this is it. Summon Monster 9 every 5 rounds even if you get get +11 LA. Every 4 rounds if you take the feat Rapid Recovery (Tome of Magic), whose prerequisite feat is Favored Vestige(Tome of Magic). That's a lot of versatility and power. I think this vestige alone bumped Binder up a Tier.

It really does, not only does it get the amazing summoning ability it also grants the entire pseudonatural template and all the resistances and true strike that entails, you also gain the nice bolt of madness ability which is useful for limiting enemy actions, and the kicker is mindsight which means that the character can never be surprised by intelligent opponents.

Another potential that the DM is considering is the Brainstealer Dragon. From the sounds of things next campaign might end up being a monster campaign so I might just go with that if there are no base races, and take binder next time around when I'm able to choose the human race once again.

Going a certain race wouldn't preclude from going Binder. Unless you mean everyone's going to play monsters without class levels. Which is kinda "meh".

Could you give us the down-lo on the new campaign's details? I smell monstrous feat optimization, and those are fairly broken.

lol Well we're not sure exactly what's happening, but basically every character is giving birth to a monster. You've got a minotaur/succubus/shadow dragon/something else, a celestial hound archon/half-fiend, my character that's got gold dragon/illithid/medusa/water elemental/celestial/elf/human blood in him, a red dragon/brass dragon/earth elemental/chain devil/merolith/magmadrake, and a thri-keen/nymph/half-fiend. I have no idea what the undead sorcerer's going to do other than just create another child for the next campaign. If we're lucky, maybe it'll be a skeleton again. That thing had so many templates on it, it wasn't even funny.

Basically we're pretty much going to all be monster races. Although the thri-keen player is thinking maybe just going tiefling/fey-touched/phrenic creature. We're all still kind of thinking things over right now.

Right now the DM's looking at the brainstealer, and I'll notification later in the week if it's accepted or not. If I do get it, I might just take a couple of levels of fangshield ranger, just because.

Does your Gold Dragon get blindsight?

You could try the "Detect everything" build which involves Mindsight, Touchsight + something else. I think Blindsight would be good for that.

Did gold dragons every have blindsight? I know they have blind sense. The red dragon in our party has it, and that may mean I'll get it eventually, but right now my character's dragon blood's just a half thing.

Not sure how one would go about a detect everything build. If we happen to go with an evil campaign, I might go with the Illithid Savant.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the red dragon's kid will also have magmadrake in it.

Sorry, I'm remembering it wrong. They don't get blindsight.

Do you get all the spell like abilities and other such things from gold dragon/illithid/medusa/water elemental/elf/human? That's actually a lot.

Edit: Actually, can you tell us what you get from all that stuff?

I'm seeing infinite Wight army already in the works just from Succubus kiss Energy Drain. If you don't know how Energy Drain makes Wights, I'll go into great detail. Command Undead is a second level arcane spell which lasts days/level, and any Cleric who expends some items on Turning level boosts can Rebuke Wights permanently (Command Undead or Rebuke one Wight then have it make more Wights for an infinite amount of controlled Wights). So that's an option.

I just edited the races they get to choose from. I don't know what minotaur daddy had for a template, but I just remembered the succubus was also part shadow dragon. When he showed up, it was fun. Unfortunately real life and the economy laying people off has caused him to leave the group. But yeah, we had wights. Helped that he was the favored soul with cleric rebuking feats. We're hoping he comes back. We miss the wight army. The undead sorcerer is actually part necromancer and sometimes summons undead, but he's mostly force missile personified now.

I also added that my character will be getting the half-celestial template as well, but not until after he's born.

I have no idea what I'm going to get out of all of this for my character. Literally, look up the templates, put that on a human, and that's what I'd get. Half dragons don't get SLA, half-illithids get a few psionics abilities, half-medusas get gaze after a while, water elemental has a few but I'll likely just get water breathing and fog cloud again, and then there's half celestial. Elf and humans don't add anything to it.

Other than that, I don't know what to say.

From the sounds of things, I'll have to go with human binder, and just hope for the best. The reason being the DM's done the percentage math, and even though I'm half dragon, because of all the other templates that I've been given, I'd only be able to take one level of brainstealer, which would use up all of my dragon levels, and half of my illithid levels. But that also means I'd be fresh for all of the celestial levels. It also turns out I wouldn't be able to access the water elemental levels unless I took a sorcerer's elemental bloodline feat for the bonus spells, or some other feat/ACF that would access that blood. This confuses me actually because I thought for sure that I had 11 LA, but from the sounds of things I've only got 7. Granted that's still a hell of a lot. Any other levels after this would require me to have limited wishes made so that I could access more of the heritage. Yeah, we're not doing that. At the same time, those same wishes could be used to turn the LAs into HD levels from Savage Species. We'll see.

Can't be a human binder now. I'm supposed to be Lawful, and binders don't really like that. The DM's also made a viable brainstealer dragon progression via the Savage Species book and Dragon Magazine articles with dragons.

If I can get away with it, I'll just go human lurker, and take a couple of levels of LAs that give me bonuses to INT so I can be fairly nasty.

If the brainstealer dragon actually looks decent, I'll probably go LN Brainstealer 1/Phrenic Creature 2/Half-Celestial 1/Ranger (Fangshield variant) 2/Swordsage 4/Dragonlord 10

Of coruse, that'll likely be the best case scenario here. I've just always wanted to do up a dragon lord and be a dragon at the same time.

I did. I found two, and it only took me two years. And these are them. My group's now disbanding because two people are moving away, and the group I left after we had difficulties with each other is also disbanding because two people are moving away and another's job takes him out of town all of the time, and everyone else has pretty much stopped doing D&D as a group (ie only plays WoW or DDO), or they've stopped playing D&D and do other games. This is it. It's all that's left.

If it wasn't for the annual gaming con, everyone would stay in retirement. And even then, most people don't play D&D because it's all 4th Ed now, and no one wants to play that, so they play board games, or other games, or don't bother coming. This city's mostly about Pokemon, Magic, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. The only store that sold D&D books is now closed down. If you want them, you have to go to the comic book store, and special order them. But if you want card games, no problem.

Leave Canada. It helps. Move to one of the gaming capitals in the north americas somewhere. Pittsburgh I strongly advise against, simply because it's the Armpit of America.
