Quote from: bhu on May 07, 2010, 11:04:20 PMFights do seem to slow things down, so in future how would you like me to handle initiative?I'm running a PbP for the first time, and Veekie suggested that I (the DM) roll all "passive" rolls for the players. This includes initiative, saves, and any skills like Spot or something that might be used reflexively. It basically saves you from waiting for a response from everyone. So, for example: a fight might start with you making Spot and Listen checks for everyone to see who's surprised (if applicable) and with you rolling Initiative. Then, when you first announce the fight, you can list who is and isn't surprised, and what order everyone acts in, all in one post with no waiting time.

Fighting slows things down? Sorry I could only post twice today FFS.
would it be objectionable to arrange initiative by order of when people are able to show up?
Generally you should just let everyone post their actions and then sort them out into initiative order once they are all in. This helps with speeding it up a little.

When you use a tool the way it was designed for -- its intended function -- then it will work very well for you.But it's not the tool's fault if you use it for something else and you fail utterly, such as trying to eat cereal with a butterknife, pounding nails with a screwdriver, blogging to voice your political opinions, and brushing your teeth with a hammer.
Cusic strides up to the bar confidently. "Whats the strongest thing you have?"
Just a note concerning Flay's last post <_< Bartholomeow hasn't appeared in cat-form in front of anyone yet.
