Optimization challenge: Treant
« on: March 11, 2010, 06:50:49 PM »
Savage progression Treant. I have 17 levels availible.
What I would like to get out of this is some sort of powerhouse grappler.
I know that if I take the treant all the way out to 12 then only 5 levels of classes would leave him kind of weak. The huge size and +18 str would make him a pretty good grappler already. Im not sure how to build him and need some help from the geniuses here please  :D

I remember seeing a grappler class where if you had them pinned for one round they would die. Im not sure if that is a viable option here or not.

The Challenge: Make a effective treant character ECL 17. I would love to have some sort of supreme grappler, but any effective melee type with high survivability will do. You can use either all or some of the treant progression, all books availible.

thanks guys

treant monk 20?

the the class that you referance is the reaping mauler,
which requires size of medium or smaller.
since your treant is far taller,
and it is not worth it to get smaller,
I think you should use your trample,
because it's power is quite ample,
to give your foes a sample
of the power of the maple.

but it is true that no one expects a grapple,
from a tree of species apple.

I do not suffer from paranoia; I enjoy every second of it.

Treant 12/ Warmind 5 ..... works great .... requires the feat: Skill Knowledge(Knowledge (Psionics)(from savage Species) or Knowledge Devotion or Education ... to Gain Knowledge(Psionics) as a Class Skill

ankle: if i took treant all the way out he would be huge. so a trample build could possibly be pretty cool, but why monk?

carn: i dont have the books in front of me, im at school. what would the warmind be used for?

i was thinking about going treant 12/ barb 5 just for the extra hp and bab. but im not sure if it would survive very long. i want to make a superb grappler, but i dont want to be one shotted by the monsters we are fighting. thats the only problem taking treant out to 12, poor hp,bab, saves. so i need to find some way to off set that.
i really would like to come in as a treant, i think it would be fun. but i need to find some way to balance him out

btw ankle great poem lol

How about Druid 17 and wild shape into a treant...  Though that is obvious enough that it isn't helpful. :)

I'll second the warmind.

Expansion (combined with practiced manifester) makes you a much bigger tree. Vigor/share pain/psicrystal makes you more durable and helps make up for the LA.

Yeah...I think warmind is a pretty genius idea frankly.

Otherwise, and in no way optimized, I think it would be hilarious to make a Treant 12/Swordsage 6/Shadowdancer 1, and be a huge tree that can hide in plain sight.  The size negatives to hide would be painful, but think about it: one moment you're a giant walking talking tree, the next moment you're gone!  Also, +16 racial to hide in a forest :P

Wizard 5 / Icantatrix 10 / Wizard +2

Step 1: Draconic Polymorph into a Treant.
Step 2: Cast Girallon's Blessing. Savage Species version if you can. It's better  :)
Step 3: Cast Evard's Tentacles
Step 4: Cast Fuse Arms
Step 5: Cast Fearsome Grapple
Step 6: Cast Bite of the Werebear
Step 7: PROFIT!

(assuming you have improved grapple, your grapple check will be about +45ish, before you count in BAB, and you can get Divine Power through Limited Wish if you must, for a mod of +62)

You do know that you can't multiclass savage progressions before finishing them right?

I think they are actually called monster classes. You can multiclass out of savage progressions.

Given that he's taking all 12 levels of treant, I think he knows it already.

You can multiclass the web savage progressions - different sources have different rules due to Wizards being really inconsistent.
