Q116
I am in a "Psionics is different" campaign and the group recently entered a competition. I was doing well before i got effectively locked down by a spellthief in a Null Psionics Field. I am playing a Spell-to-power Erudite, but trying to keep things low key.
So, what are the standard methods of dealing with Anti-magic/Null Psionics Fields? I remember something about a shrunk wall of iron (in a dome) on your head to cut off LoE. Assuming no sorts of casting/manifesting within said field, what can i do if i find myself in one?
There's a 9th level arcane spell in Lords of Madness called Invoke Magic that lets you cast a single 4th level or lower spell of your choice in an active anti-magic field (typically Dimension Door or something similar to extricate yourself from the field).
I guess a Spell to Power Erudite could certainly consider that an option, if you somehow get around the can only convert "8th level or lower arcane spells" clause.
The "tinfoil hat" trick (which I think is silly and I do not endorse
), involves creating a dome made of iron or some similar substance that is tall enough to encompass only you (the quickest way is to cast Wall of Iron, and then Fabricate to create the shape you desire). A wizard would cast a Permanency Shrink Item on the dome to make is small enough and light enough to wear as a hat. When he finds himself in an anti-magic field, the dome returns to normal size and encases him, blocking line of effect. He then teleports out from under it to a safe distance with Dimension Door or a similar effect. Since said dome would be at least as tall as the character and weigh several tons or more at full size it is unlikely to be moved by non-magical means once in the field.

Is there anything anywhere that says you can use a Standard or Move action to use a swift action? or is it a flat 1 swift action per round (unless something says otherwise)?
This is a tricky thing to rule on.
I'm assuming your question is, "I've used my swift this round. I have nothing left I want to do with my standard action, but I do have another swift action I want to take."
There is no text I'm aware of that explicitly allows "trading up" with your actions, that is using bigger action to accomplish a smaller one.
However there is also a problem with flat-out saying you can't.
If you have a feature or feat that applies auto-quicken to spells that you cast (like the Auto-Quicken I, II, and III epic feats), you technically would no longer be able to cast more than one spell per round, as you only have 1 swift action.
In addition, suppose you want to ready an action to cast a quickened spell. Again, technically you couldn't since you can only ready standard actions. This means you also couldn't do anything that takes a swift action during a surprise round, even if that was the only thing you wanted to do.
That doesn't make sense to me at all, and I've found that most people agree when it's presented in this fashion and house-rule allowing you to use a standard action to execute a swift.
