Call of the Twilight Defender
« on: March 03, 2010, 01:22:05 AM »
Dragon Magic, page 65.

CALL OF THE TWILIGHT DEFENDER
Conjuration (Summoning)
Level: Druid 6, sorcerer/wizard 6
Components: V
Casting Time: 1 full round
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: One twilight guardian
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
The very ground erupts in a shower of stone and dirt, accompanied by a thunderclap. Standing in the center of the damaged ground is a creature of stone, wood, and plant parts resembling (lie regal form of a guardian dragon.
This spell summons one twilight guardian (see page 121) to fight for you. The spell functions like a summon natures
ally spell, but with one exception. At any time, a summoned twilight guardian can sacrifice itself by simply touching you (a standard action); the twilight
guardian is immediately destroyed, and you gain a number of hit points equal to 1/2 the twilight guardian's remaining hit points before its sacrifice.
Special: A character who learns this spell gains a +1 competence bonus on Knowledge (nature) checks.

Note that there is no cap on how much HP you can get with this spell, nor does the HP expire.

Thanks to Olo Demonsbane for pointing this out.

Note that there is no cap on how much HP you can get with this spell, nor does the HP expire.

So it's an arcane healing spell.  Not a particularly efficient one, either.

Quick question: Where is that rule? I remember something about not being able to be healed more than your normal total...

Does that mean his pvs can be boosted?
Things that come to mind:

Augment Summoning Feat [+16 pvs]
Enhanced Summonning [+8/+16 pvs]
Malconvoker'S Deceptive Summons [+2 pvs/HD]
Master Specialist Minor School Esoterica (Conjurartion) [+1 pv/CL]
Elhonna's Brooch [+1 pv/HD]
Ring of Mighty Summons [maximum hit points per Hit Die]
Admiral's Bicorne [+2 pvs/HD]

Does all of those stack?

You aren't recovering them though, you are gaining them.  I think Phaedrus hit the nail on the head :P

If you're going to use that logic, you might as well say that they add to your maximum hp.

I just don't see it flying.

I think that's the point, actually. In much the same way as your hit points for leveling up are described as "gained", IIRC.
So you end up stuck in an endless loop, unable to act, forever.

In retrospect, much like Keanu Reeves.

As a slight aside, do you see 99% of the shit I post on here flying in the average game?  :P

Gotta wonder what would happen if this were Echoed a few times...it'd be like the ultimate patch bot on a Circle Magic caster.  Now we know why everyone hates the Hathrans (who incidentally can do WAY better with a couple persisted spells to effectively have infinite hp anyway)!

Yeah, the twilight defender doesn't have wings or anything.

How do Vivacious Creatures, the Positive Energy Plane, and Twilight Defender equal GG?
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"
