Oh! Also.

Take a changeling ACF double-specialist wizard (specializes in both transmutation and illusion by dumping three schools) and go focused specialist. Now you get 1 less regular spell slot, 1 bonus spell slot that can go to either an illusion or transmutation spells, 2 bonus spell slots that must be illusion spells, and 2 bonus spell slots that must be transmutation spells. PER LEVEL.

Now go master specialist. Now you gain bonuses for both transmutation and illusion, though you might have to burn feats on BOTH Spell Focus (Illusion) and Spell Focus (Transmutation).

Of course, if you wait to go master specialist until you've gone either red wizard or incantatrix, you can get special stuff for whatever other school you've chosen. And since you get an additional bonus focused school, focused specialist grants you 2 bonus spell slots for THAT school, too.

And if you choose red wizard, make sure to spend a bunch of money on spells to add to your spell book from your soon-to-be-dumped school, so you can still cast spells from it as you like.

Red Wizard and Incantatrix don't give you another specialized school; all they do is make you ban an additional school. As an example, a Sorcerer/Incantatrix doesn't choose a specialist school, they just have a banned school. So you wouldn't get any more spell slots/class features from Focused/Master Specialist.

The changeling wizard sub-level bit does actually seem to work, though, since Dual Specialization specifically mentions that you have two specialist schools. Although an argument could be made that you have to take Focused Specialist twice, which means you'd need to give up 2 regular spell slots/level.

Also, I don't think Master Specialist would give you abilities for both schools simultaneously. You could, however, pick either Illusion or Transmutation abilities as you went, which is kind of pointless outside of the expanded spellbook because all of the Transmutation esotericas suck ass. The best one is the minor esoterica, but that competes with the Illusion minor esoterica, which is much better for ScMs.

You could get the caster level bonuses to both schools though, so that's useful.

There is so much what the hell in Dragon 310. I'm not even kidding, some of the stuff is so... ugh...

A skillmonkey 2/Branch Dancer 4 can pull +1 arrows out of trees (Branch Dancer requires 5 ranks in a couple skills, entry at lv3, gains the arrow pulling at 2nd level, as normal arrows. Upgrades to +1 arrows at 4th. The arrows have wooden heads, but treated the same as metal-tipped arrows.) As a free action. The tree loses a year of age for every 20 arrows extracted.

 :banghead

So now you can ensure the trees in your garden stay the perfect size. Among other things -_- Instant logging, for so much more profit. I mean, think about it, at ECL 4 you can turn a tree into a pile of mundane arrows as a free action. Instant deforestation! You have 14400 move actions in a day. Get logging. Even if it's a 50-year old forest, that's 14.4 million arrows in a day. If they are +1 arrows, I calculate a daily value of 33 billion for a 50-year old forest. So 16-17 billion GP in pure profit.

Even if you houserule it to being a swift action, that's still 7200 +1 arrows a day. 16.5 million value, 8 million profit, regardless of tree ages. Note that this is up there with starting random wildfires in the top ways to get iced by the druid mafia.

But it does allow skill mastery for Jump, Climb, Balance, Move Silently, and Survival. Oh, also, you gain Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Tree. Have fun, Kensai, as you beat people with your magical tree. And it gains proficiency with 'all bows.' Greatbows, Elven Double Bows, et cetera you say?

There's a fighter variant that gains EWP with four different weapons automatically as part of its proficiencies. For no apparent drawback...

ITT: We discuss the creative application of unlimited +1 arrows. OH HAI ARTIFICER.

That actually sounds like all kinds of awesome. Beat people to death with a tree, then instantly turn it into a pile of magic arrows, kill everyone else in sight, and sell the rest of the arrows?

Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Tree.

This is the greatest feat, except possibly for Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Chicken Ballista.
So you end up stuck in an endless loop, unable to act, forever.

In retrospect, much like Keanu Reeves.

Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Tree reminds me of the UberERcharger by Tempest Stormwind.  He could wield a warclub so large (Colossal++ in damage) that it was simpler to call it "tree."
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Dragon #294 has a magic item named Yondalla's Cape of Halflingkind that, among other things, gives a Halfling a +2 racial bonus to saves. Normally this would (and is, in fact, supposed to) overlap witht he regular +1 halflings already get, but everyone's favourite Halfling subrace trades that +1 for a bonus feat... so, because the wording of the item says "a halfling wearing a Yondalla's Cape of Halflingkind has a +2 racial bonus to saving throws" instead of "the racial bonus insreases by +1" or somesuch, a Strongheart Halfling can use this item to negate the one thing he trades off for the bonus feat, and get some other goodies (skill bonuses, including massive Dilpomacy and Bludd bonuses vs. nonhalflings) on top of that, because he's such a good customer.
Of course, it's from an old Dragon mag and so obscure I'd never have heard of it if not for the Save Items handbook, so it's unlikely to feature in a campaign, but interesting for CO campaigns that allow all sources.

Page 79, 7,512 gp. An item that provides a comparable benefit (+1 save bonus that stacks iwth a Cloak of Resistance) would be a Robe of the Vagabond, which gives a +1 Luck bonus to saves and AC to anyone for 6k. The Cape of Halflingkind (ordinarily) also gives a +1 save bonus that stacks with the staple Cloak, but limited to Halflings. Of course, then it goes on to provide other benefits as well.
