Archivist + Versatile Spellcaster?
« on: January 29, 2010, 12:21:42 PM »
Quote
Versatile Spellcaster [General]
You can use two lower-level spell slots to cast a spell one level higher.
Prerequisite: Ability to spontaneously cast spells.
Benefit: You can use two spell slots of the same level to cast a spell you know that is one level higher. For example, a sorcerer with this feat can expend two 2nd-level spell slots to cast any 3rd-level spell he knows.

I was sure there was a feat which would let an archivist qualify for this, but I can't remember what it was.
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Wouldn't Uncanny Forethought work too, assuming you snagged arcane spells (also assuming it requires arcane spells specifically)?

My PrC Pally Trickery (coming soon!)

Uncanny Forethought should work nicely for the build I have in mind (which already has Southern Magician and doesn't do much healing or summoning). Thanks.

Requires Spell Mastery, which requires Wizard 1, which was never changed when the Wu-Jen, Chameleon, or Archivist got printed.

Cantrips are always half a spell level in calculations.
Aha! To calculate the price, times the highest-level level spell by itself (.5*.5=.25), then times 200 gp (1/day) for a 50 gp cantrip Runestaff. Sadly, I can't find any Shadow spell cantrips.

addendum: 29-01-10, 11:25, -8 GMT, in any case, the funny thing is that it lowers its own price like that.

addendum 2: 29-01-10, 11:26, -8 GMT, for a level 1 spell 1/day, it's 200 gp. For level 2, 2*2*200=800 gp. level 3*3*200=1800. level 4*4*200=3200. level 5*5*200=5000. 6=7200. 7=9800. 8=12800. 9=16200.
