Extreme survival test. Need help.
« on: January 02, 2010, 06:50:13 AM »
Alright, I think there have been some threads requesting assistance for the Neverending dungeon before.

Right now, I'm still unsure about my build...

The Stealthy Guy
He's Whispergnome Trapfinding Wildshape Ranger with Favored Environment(Underground). The other class(since this game is basically a gestalt solo dungeoncrawl) is Binder, picked both for versatility and Malphus' scouting/stealth potential.

Feats:
Improved Binding(to access Malphus at level 1) and Darkstalker(to improve my stealth). The third feat is still open, and I have no clue what to take.

I'm also unsure about the flaws(traits are illiterate(+1 hide) and Nightsighted(for a total of 70ft Darkvision).

I have 240gp to purchase equipment.

Are you using favored class rules? If you are not than you might like to try going swift hunter on your ranger side of the build, it has some synergy with several vestiges that are available to you, especially paimon.

Because I'm both forgoeing combat style(wildshape ranger variant) and favored enemy(favored environment variant), swift hunter is likely not an optimal choice.

Un-updated 3.0 material is banned, unfortunately.

In that case, I suggest you look through dungeonscape - it's far less comprehensive, but at least it has rubber balls and lard.

Actually, I think you can afford a single adamantine arrow.  Cutting through walls is possible.

I didn't think of adamantine arrows, unfortunately.

My character sheet can be seen here:

Lemming the first

His dungeon run can be viewed here:

He just barely managed to defeat a Lemure, and is currently at 4/10 HP.

Why Crossbow?  Are you going for crossbow sniper feat?

Also, is mystic ranger allowed?

The crossbow is a remnant of a previous incarnation which had 20 dex and 6 strength. I forgot to switch it out for a bow.

Mystic ranger is dragon material, and thus banned.

Oh, and my character died, and is attempting his second dungeon run. Apparently, every hour of inactivity has a chance of triggering a "random encounter" which is a CR 1 monster that grants no xp/loot.

Do Binder 1 // Warlock 1.

Summon Swarm can deal with CR 1 monsters pretty easily. And hide behind a tower shield.

Yes I did and I was referring to the no gain aspect of the random encounter.

Here's a second character for the same dungeon:

Evil McBadguy.

The plan is to bind Naberius and abuse Chosen of Evil. I *could* have gone with Dark speech(by achieving Will save +5), but that seemed too reliant on the RAW to avoid the DM's banhammer.

After Evil McBadguy died,

I thought long and hard to create a superior character that wasn't a one-trick pony.

I came up with TEAM, an Neutral Evil Azurin Crusader // Stalwart Battle sorcerer.

He has 1 toad as familiar which can spit 2d6 acid at will at +6(+4 size bonus, +1 dex bonus to hit, +1 BAB from master) as ranged touch attack vs any target within 30'.

He furthermore has 2 least soulsparks(1 normal, one from the shared soulmeld on the familiar) which can attack at +5, 1d4+1 (or +6/1d4+2 if essentia is invested).

I plan to level up as Crusader // Incarnate, using the sorc level only to get a familiar to abuse share soulmeld.
The shape soulmeld feats will be retrained into Expanded Soulmeld capacity and some essentia-boosting feat.

Evil Alignment is chosen because of the melee damage boosts it provides via soulmelds.

Why did you go with a stalwart battle sorcerer, if you're gestalting with crusader? You already have full BAB and a good hit die, so it seems it is giving you nothing, except the ability to cast in light armor...

That's basically what I did my first time in the dungeon except I was Incarnate // Druid and shared with AC.

Worked well, but it was a one trick pony.
