Working on a Pyrokinetecist.
« on: November 14, 2009, 07:04:48 PM »
Just something simple. UA Warrior-2, UA Expert-2, Some other base class-2,  Pyrokinetecist-9, Elemental Warrior-5. Those two free spaces might end up Ardent (I think I say some cheese for it) or something from the Tome of X series.

Simple and sweet. A nice little touch attack in your choice of earth, water or air in addition to fire (Elemental Warrior level 3).

One tiny question. is their some way to get iaijutsu focus to work with the whip?

I'll post a feat/skill build when I know if iaijutsu focus is a viable damage boosting option.

Don't know about Iiajitsu Focus unless your DM rules the action to form the whip counts as drawing it.  Power Attack does work with it, however, and is rather impressive.

Make sure you grab Psychic Meditation so you can fire off your Heat Death every other round and still being able to do something in between.  Heat Death is the one Pyro ability that doesn't care about your opponent's immunities.  If it's alive, they make the Fort save or die.  Yes, you have a chance to kill off a Fire Elemental with Heat Death.  It is that awesome.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

Why would you even do this? It hurts my eyes and looks like you ate your keyboard before suffering an attack of explosive diarrhea.

If using Genesis to hide your phylactry, set it at -300 degrees farenheit.  See how do-gooders fare with a liquid atmosphere.

If you're adding in Iaijutsu Focus, I'd put some levels in Iaijutsu Master. You'll get to add your Charisma modifier (which should be high in order to pump Heat Death's save DC) to every IF die you roll. Which is very nice.

He probably means something from either the Tome of Battle or the Tome of Magic. My guess would be ToB, Diamond Mind synergizes nicely with psionics and is good for dipping. Especially late in the game.

Either that, or he meant the horrors that are the Tome Barbarian/Fighter/etc.

Diamond Mind also synergizes well with Iiajitsu Focus.

If he did that, why wouldn't he just be taking the Elementalist or the Fire Mage class?

incarnate2 is always a fun dip when you can fit it in.  two of your soulmelds should be crystal helm(bound to crown) and planar ward, and then you get one spare.  the planar ward is immunity to compulsions, charms and possesions, while the chakra bound crystal helm is the force descriptor added to your lash.

"ha! I STABILIZED the ectoplasm in my whip!"

grab strongheart vest with it, and its the ultimate "fuck you ghosts" spec there is.  force descriptor attack, deflection bonus to AC, immunity to all their good shit, and DR against their ability damage. fun times.
I do not suffer from paranoia; I enjoy every second of it.

By Tome of X, I meant Battle and Magic.

I like the force lash idea, but ghosts aren't that common in our games.

Still not sure how the whip would work with IF though.

Well, RAW, you aren't drawing the whip, so it won't work with IF. Still, your DM might rule otherwise.

As I said, it depends on if the DM rules that the action spent creating the Lash counts as drawing it.

Although, RAW, you can draw another melee weapon and IF with the Lash, since the skill never actually specifies that the weapon you draw has to be the one you make the attack with.  Prepare for getting books thrown at you if you do this, though.

Hmm... I guess I could "draw" my fist out of my pocket, make the lash and then use the lash for IF. Just gotta find some way to make a lash faster than a move action...

Quicken Spell-like ability is the only way I know of to do so, and it only works 3/day.

Manifesting Hustle takes a swift action and gives you a Move action.

Dunno if it really matters, but take a look at the pyrokineticist "fix" in *enter that psionics book, god damnit hold on I'll find it in a bit maybe after reading some white wolf* which basically says "give it full BAB instead." Like they knew how they'd kinda made it a tad gimpy and wanted to boost it.
