Fun with Haunt Shift.
« on: November 10, 2009, 01:32:13 AM »
For those of you how know the Haunt shift trick, The basis of being effected by the trick is that the spell only requires that you be a legal target at the time of casting, meaning a veil of undeath (or similair magic) and some holy/unholy arrows can make you a target for the spell, but what about the object you possess?

Namely, If I somehow flesh to stone a monster, haunt shift into its body, then stone to flesh it back, what is the result. A creature haunted by a myself. The haunting effect allows me to move the body as I want, but what about using the bodies spell-like abilities? Supernature abilities? feats? skills? Its mind is still there so i might not have a co-operative host. On the subject of its Mind, the body effectively has 2 now, with separate actions too i guess. What would happen if the Host was then Dominated?

thoughts?

I have no idea, but that's a hilarious idea to try.

You're doing it wrong. You need to be a thrallherd with the Leadership feat, make all your minions Fiends of Possession, and cram everyone in at once. :D
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
I'd like to see you make a FoP capable of that with only 6 levels.

I was looking at ways to make my Wizard less squishy, and i liked the idea of gaining some extra abilities in the process. Magic jar and a few different monsters in stasis and enveloping pit, possessing a new body and all, but the clause about only effecting the creature with the spell once per casting was annoying.

Huh? Only affecting the creature once per casting? I don't see that... If it makes its save, you can't affect it again with that casting. You can fix that by permanently enslaving the creatures via Necrotic Tumor, and telling them to never attempt to save against any of your spells. I have a character that uses this combo, also.
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

I'll take that as a challenge. How debatable can the tricks get? :D
It's all about vision and making reality conform to your vision. By dropping a fucking house on it.

Sure. CHALLENGE TIME~!

Be as cheesy as you like and we can simply measure how awesome you were by subtracting how much cheese you used. :P

You're on.

1. Be an elf or whatever. Just make sure you can take Otherworldly.
2. Take Otherworldly.
3. Take Educated or some other feat that permanently gives you Knowledge (Arcana) as a class skill. Stupid FoP requires it but doesn't have it as a class skill.
4. Level to 3rd level. Use Craft skill cheese to make enough money to pay for a Ritual of Alignment. When you have enough money to buy a scroll of Flesh to Salt, you can speed this up by a lot.
5. When you're lvl 3 and have enough money, perform a Ritual of Alignment to gain the Evil subtype. The works.
6. Regain your XP to get to level 3 so you can enter FoP.
When you reach FoP 3 and ECL 6, rebuild one level of whatever base class you chose to another FoP level.
7. At FoP 4, you gain the ability to possess creatures.
8. Profit.

If you want to be able to actually control the creature as well, that's possible too. Just rebuild the other two levels of your base class as well and end up as a FoP 6 without base classes.
Alternatively, you can use a certain debatable trick (now, unfortunately, lost to the WotC boards) to get around the skill cap and get into FoP a level earlier. Same difference, really.

Now the only problem is paying for a ritual of alignment for all your followers.

See step 4.
Also, I don't think we can quite make all of our followers lvl 4 FoPs, just the 4th level or higher ones (4th level can reach a maximum of two levels, four if we also use retraining early qualification cheese).
