Craft (Ass) and Other Insanity
« on: November 07, 2009, 12:15:47 AM »
You can craft the items in the PHB at 1/3 the cost.

What if you were to craft a mule?

Other than getting carted away for unnatural acts of husbandry, anyway.  :banghead

What other interesting and insane uses for the often-ignored Craft skills are there?

Well, I wager that would be a representation of breeding and raising a mule. With an obnoxiously large quantity of gestation and growth accelerating chemicals to speed that sucker up, of course.

Now, what I have to wonder is, how would one craft an Unarmed Strike? I mean, it's free, of course, but still.
So you end up stuck in an endless loop, unable to act, forever.

In retrospect, much like Keanu Reeves.

Yeah, but then you have to give it away to people. I mean, I suppose punching would accomplish that, but would they keep it? Or do you sever your hand and grow a new one?

Maybe we should ask the warforged monk/kensai with fists of throwing.

Well, see what you do is first you put a lot of ranks in Craft (Taxonomy) and then hire a bunch of commoners.

IIRC, a Bard with Bardic Knack and Jack of All Trades has ranks in all skills.  So this means they have ranks in Knowledge (Metagame) and Knowledge (Spaceship Design).  Go nuts!

I was under the impression that knowledge skills were limited to what was in the PHB, plus whatever the DM allows.

It'd have to be Craft: Starshipbuilder and Profession: Metagamer, as craft and profession are not limited in such a way.

Well yeah, obviously the DM shouldn't allow it, but it's a funny thought.  And Spaceship Design would be knowledge, because Architecture and Engineering is (and that's the skill to plan the construction of a large ship).

anyone remember that thread where Tsuyo argued that based on the scaling of complexity between the craft check for a spoon and a masterwork sword, a high enough craft check should theoretically allow you to build a VSD?

I worked out how to build a D&D spaceship.  It involved Decanter of Endless Water jets (with water that was instantly turned to steam as it came out) mounted in swiveling Riverine mountings for endless fuel and acceleration with vectored thrust capability.  Chambers of Comfort provided atmospheric stabilization while Reverse Gravity handled artificial gravity and Prismatic shielding from Stronghold Builder's Guide provided forward impact shielding so debris couldn't hurt the thing.  It was pretty cool, actually, and I'm always a fan of any steam powered spaceship.

The biggest issue with something like that is navigation but having a diviner on board could take care of that.

It can be found here if anyone's interested.

Before they got to the punchline of that thread when I was showing it to them, one of my PCs said, "Is he trying to build the Death Star or something?"   :lmao

This is an older thread but I have to throw in my corroded 2 cents.

When I first saw Craft (ass), I wasn't thinking of mules. More along the lines of Profession (Plastic Surgeon)
Hardest part would be not sneezing or brushing up against the commoners and killing them during the facelift or ass crafting or liposuction.

So yeah Craft (body) with Ranks in Profession (plastic Surgeon)
