"...'sgood." your coworker Brian Wells says across the break table to you.

In front of you is your laptop, open on the Magellan! News page.

There was an accidental explosion in a laboratory that killed the entire research team. The company Marksman Industries was looking into the source, believing it to be a flaw in an experimental engine they were developing. This incident, they say, will set them back a number of years.

You totally were not paying attention to what Brain had been talking about, but he eyed you expectantly, and held aloft his coffee cup.

Timothy looks over at Brian, wondering why people always try to talk to him when he's in the middle of something. Oh well, Brian is a good guy and it isn't as if Timothy ever made friends easily. Even in the labs he's still seen as something of an oddball.

Putting on a smile that he hopes comes across as welcoming he says, "What, the coffee? I haven't had it yet."

"Well, you better grab yourself a cup. It's going to be a long night." He took a donut out of a white box that sat between the two of you. "I can't believe that Miles 'asked' us to pull this all-nighter on such short notice." Brian looked at his watch. "I'm going to be dead tired in a couple of hours, and it isn't even midnight yet."

Brian yawned in an exaggerated manner, and withdrew a Zeppelin's* sandwich. If Brian was as predictable as he consistently was, it was one of their $5 foot-longs. You knew this because--

"Man, I can't get enough of these $5 foot-longs! I eat the damn things every day and I just never get tired of it!"

You knew this because Brian never got tired of telling you about it either. Now you remembered why you'd given up taking your breaks in the office lounge.

*PhobiaVerse equivalent of a Subway.

Timothy chuckles. "Hey, at least we're getting paid. Anyways, there's nowhere I'd rather be than working in a lab." Deciding that he's not going to get to read his news, at least for awhile, he snags a donut and starts munching on it as he goes to get a cup of coffee. Two creamers and two packets of sugar, mmmmmmm delicious.

Brian and Tim are both overhauling one of the computer servers tonight. So far, for the first half of your shift you haven't been able to find the root of the problem.

Walking back over to Brain, coffee in hand, Timothy says, "And the quicker we get this done, the quicker we can get to doing something interesting. I just wish I could figure out what is going on and get this over with."

"Yeah Tim, I hear ya." Brian says. "I gotta 'drop the kids off at the pool' so why don't you head on back to the Server room, and I'll be right there?" Taking his coffee cup, he leaves the room to find the restroom.

You, Brian, and a couple of late night security guards are the only ones who are supposed to be in the building. You clearly hear a thunk, from behind a doorway in the hall as you pass. It's one of the smaller offices. There are no lights on inside. You hear the thunk a second time.

Timothy is torn, his natural rabbiting instincts fighting with his curiosity and his outrage that somebody might be stealing something that he worked on. He looks around for anything that might be easily usable for self-defense, or even better Brian or one of the guards.

There is a handy fire extinguisher on the wall not far from you. Was Timothy hoping for anything in particular?

Timothy thinks fast and grabs the fire extinguisher. He might be a coward, but he has always been loyal to his employers and will not stand by and let them be robbed. Anyways, who knows where the security guards were, he doesn't have time to go find one and then convince him that Timothy is onto something.

Extinguisher in hand Timothy reaches out to try and turn the knob, seeing if the door is locked.

The small office door opens inward. The room is dark, but in the ligyt from the hall you can easily make out Benny the Security guard. He has duct tape wrapped around his mouth and the back of his head. He is also taped at the wrists and ankles. He looks up at you in recognition. His eyes plead for assistance.

Dropping the fire extinguisher, Timothy runs to Benny and pulls out his mult-tool. This is why he always carries it around, it's so damn useful and you never know when you'll need it.

Starting with Benny's head, Timothy carefully cuts the duct tape away to free his mouth.

I know that he doesn't really have any of his gear but since I am an Information Systems major and go to work with mine, I figured he would too. He even has a better excuse because he's a real engineer.

"Thank you Doctor Lowry!" Benny says in a rush. "Help me get free-- we have intruders in the building and they are armed!" he offers you his taped wrists next.

Timothy quickly cuts the the tape on Benny's wrists, then moves to his ankles. "I'm just glad it was you instead of one of them Benny! I almost had a heart attack when I heard you bumping around in here!"
