Because that book was a waste of good paper.
And WotC hates psionics. Why else would they have made the 4e monk powered by it? :P

Because they are lazy  :D

Seriously.... sometimes WotC never has no any idea on what it's doing...
Fix'd.
You sure?  We got ToB, EPH, and MoI out of them, didn't we?

Yeah, and then we had to convince our DMs that ToB and EPH aren't unbalanced. (I can't attest as far as MoI, though.)
Gendou Ikari is basically Gregory House in Kaminashades. This is FACT.

Well...
...
True, but not a COMPLETE waste. It had some decent new powers, and it had Ardent and Mantles, which are really fun and thematic.
...and that's about it. Some nice epic psionic feats, but nobody plays epic.

MoI is fine, as far as I can tell. But evidently they didn't care about ToB, since their errata turned into Complete Mage as though the guy writing the document grew bored and copy-pasted Complete Mage errata in order to go out to lunch early.

MoI has some fairly stupid soulmelds, but 2/3rds of them are at least useful, and 1/4 downright awesome.

MoI is my proof for the statement that at least some of the designers at WOTC are in fact competent and capable of math (they may even have lurked on the old boards).  The levels you get more essentia capacity are exactly the power level breakpoints the CO boards agreed on.  Levels 6, 11, and 17.

The book then lies some, but only because they *have* to toe the company line, even if they know it's bull.
Eh, the wizard have more money than them combined, he could in theory just use all his money on a fleet of trained attack mules, but then we aren't playing 3.5 but zergling rushing in Starcraft instead.

My guess would be that even the simplest of weapons require at least a little training in order to avoid hurting yourself.
For example, the sling is a simple weapon. Have you ever tried to fling a stone with one? If you don't know what you're doing, you're about as likely to whack yourself in the head as the other guy.

I've always questioned how much practical experience the folks who came up with the categories had, given that a sling is harder to master than a bow.

there is _some_ oddball logic there, in that 'simple' weapons are 'peasant' weapons, effectively. 'martial' weapons are for martial people - militia and so forth.

Exotic weapons only have a crunch reason to be exotic, for the most part. I'll admit, spiked chain fits there, but how is Bastard Sword an exotic weapon in any way? Why is HANDAXE a martial weapon? how is a repeating crossbow more difficult to use than an ordinary one?
*sigh*
I guess Exotic is just 'people don't usually use these weapons in this setting'... I'd say the categories are setting-specific and the DM should do some juggling between what goes where when customizing theri homebrew world....

They also gimped the sling vs the bow in a number of ways, most of which are utter BS.

You can't iterative with slings.  T_T.  And they have crap range despite historically having range at least equal to a lower draw longbow.

As far as the Bastard Sword goes, supposedly it's because a one-handed weapon should not, in theory, exceed 1d8 damage.

As if your weapon's base dice size mattered after level 2.   :rollseyes  *sigh* oh, WOTC.

The words of creation contain no words for evil acts, yet you could speak for hours about good acts such as forgiveness and mercy.

How the holy man can you express forgiveness and mercy when you can't express evil acts?

"So that guy over there did ____ but I forgive him" It makes no sense!
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.
