Generating build Ideas
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:47:58 AM »
It's a simple enough concept, but there are a few character creation rules.

THE GAME info is:
Quote
I am looking for 3-5 players for a bi-weekly game of D&D 3.5. The game would run on Monday nights at 8 pm EST.

Books Allowed: Core Rulebooks, Forgotten Realms CS, Faiths and Pantheons, Complete Series

***ALL OTHER BOOKS BY DM APPROVAL ONLY***

Starting Level: 10(NO PrC At Start of Game)

Starting Gold: 50,000

32 PT Buy Creation

My one hurdle is that no PRCing for the first 10 levels...fuck.

So here are a list of idea's I'd like to run by everyone;

Casting:
Focused Specialist Conjurer10/Incantrix 10
       Pros- lolduh
       Cons- duhlol

Gish:
Stalwart Sorc 10/Swiftblade3/Spellsword1/Abjurant Champion 5/Swiftblade1 (ACF metamagic specialist)
Pros-It's a gish that is not TOO bad, has a caster level of 18, all the goodies of the prcs, 17bab
Cons-Don't have access to SpC so the better spells are not available. I'm also very confused on feats for this build

I'm confused at this point, maybe a Swift Hunter?

Would he allow Players Guide To Faerun, since that's where the Incantatrix is and it looks to be a FR game?  Also, does "Complete Series" include all errata and web additions?  If so, my recommendation is nab the Otherworldly regional feat, along with Magical Training, go Cloistered Cleric of Mystra 10, and then go straight into Dweomerkeeper for the last 10.  Simple, brutally effective, and laugh when the other players see the BAB and you tell them you'll cover melee :)  Oh, and don't forget Initiate of Mystra, to step into the AMF the Incantatrix puts up...because when his does nothing to you but your persisted one shuts him down completely (unless he has a brain for contingent planning...) the first two words out of his mouth will almost assuredly be some variation of "Oh shit!"

So, are you looking for more builds then?  No PrC at 10th level.  Hmmm....

TWF Duelist (of sorts)
Human Rogue 4/Swashbuckler 6

Advancement: Probably 10 more swashbuckler levels.

Feats (without flaws): Able Learner (if the DM allows), TWF, Quick Draw, Daring Outlaw, Improved TWF.

Basically, this guy sneak attacks like a rogue 10, but he has a BAB +9 instead of +7 at this point.  He has better HP as well, but he loses out on some skill points.  If you can get Able Learner, this makes it easy to advance important skills with swashbuckler levels.  If you can't take Able Learner, Improved Initiative is probably good.  Be sure to max UMD!

If you can talk your DM into it, get a wand chamber (Dungeonscape) on each of your weapons, so you can use a wand while having each weapon drawn.  One of my personal favorites with this character is a wand of Sculpted Grease (total 2nd level spell).  This makes it easy to make creatures flatfooted and keep them in place.

Druid
Human Druid 10

Advancement: 10 more druid levels

@KellKheraptis the c.cleric of mystra is a very interesting though I'm taking into serious consideration.

@Robbypants I like the druid idea, with being a summoning monster via summoning feats.

More info when I wake up.

Um, yeah, a druid is better off not PrCing anyway. And limited books hurts them less than it hurts everyone else. And they're one of the strongest classes in the game. So...

It really depends on what you want to play/do, though.

druid10/planar sheperd10?  :D

maybe abuse retraining and/or psychic reformation to get the pre-lvl10 PrCs you wanted anyways?

Cleric / Techsmith ftw!

If he lets you have artifice/craft domain (don't remember which gives you +4 to craft) you can crank out some ridiculous stuff. Take whichever gives you the craft bonus and then the magic domain for anyspell. Have a robot body guard and be a cleric, whats not to love.

If he'd listed Eberron in the list of available sources, I would have suggested that!

@PhaedrusXY - I think I've decided against the druid idea, more because I'm playing a shepherd in another game.
@Khorus - I don't have the books on me atm, could you go into more detail?
@Anklebite - No psionics anyway  :(

I think I'll try the c.cleric idea, I've never taken it for more than a level or two. I'd like to test that out.

Can I get help with the feats/race?

What domains should I go with, and what feats while I'm here? Magical Training I get, as well as otherworldly.  But the rest of the feats I'm still iffy on. Should I just head on over to the cleric's handbook?

The traditional Cheater of Mystra build takes only Magical Training, and achieves outsider status through taking 5 levels of Divine Disciple.
This unfortunately does not appear to be an option for you.

Yeah, the only way to salvage this is to go normal cleric, Because I really need that Heavy Armor Proficiency. =(
