huh. if memeory serves, my PHB had an entry for each skill on taking 10. however, I am currently residing in Florida, while my books are residing in Norway.   yeah, really. Ill try and get a hold of one to take a look through (got an electronic version of it somewhere in PDF format)

You want serious power?  Have each of these guys invest in a Magebreed Mule, plus some cows.  Any threat that comes by gets stampeded to death, and the mules actually fight quite well (and only cost 16gp each).

AFAIK, you can't take 20 on a Knowledge skill because if you fail you can't retry.

Mine doesn't have anything like that.

This. Can't take 10 if rushed or threatened though.

I've been kicking around the idea of making the Thorp out of kobolds and just pumping up trap techniques.

Basically, a whole town of this kid:

Alright, some basic questions about obstacles that I've run into and would like to gauge your guy's opinion towards?

Question #1. When it says there is a 40 gp limit does that mean for purchasing or crafting (as you only spend 1/3 base price when crafting)?

Question #2. Would it be reasonable to assume that if PoDunk, the smallest Thorp, was filled with a group of kobold miners they'd be able to mine a gem at least worth 100 gp? Or does question #1 hit this away?

Question #3. What can you reasonably do with a low handle animal score, in the way of gaining animals?

Items available for sale.  I'm parsing it as "you can craft things from 40 to 120 gp for personal use, but they must be precious enough that the character would never sell them under any circumstances"

Q1 - yeah, it's just the rules in the DMG; especially as a starting point.
Miners, or heck even a Crafter can slowly get infinite moolah.

TML posted a limiter of 80 to 88 gp, a few pages back ... umm ... just ignore that too  ;)
Mercantile feat on only one commoner, blows that up immediately.
So it's kinda a hard fast limit - and then it's not.

completely off-topic, it always amazed me how dumb the villains from the "home alone" series were.

Why don't you get hit on the head that many times, and see how dumb you end up.

They just didn't put any ranks in disable device or search, easy mistake for a rogue...

They seemed more like warrior 1's than rogues, to be honest.

cast spells as a cleric 1.
take extra turning a few times, and have a high cha. take heighten spell, and divine metamagic for it.
retrain like you have to.
