Some questions about the Dragonwrought Kobold
« on: June 30, 2009, 09:10:26 AM »
So, besides the +3 in Wis, Cha and Int which are the other benefits of being a Dragonwrought Kobold if someone choose not to take the Epic feats granted by the dragon type and isn't a spellcaster? I'm thinking about incorporating a Dragonwrought Kobold in one of my builds but I don't want to make the character so overpowered that would make disqualified.

Access to Rapidstrike and Improved Rapidstrike can be nice if you go with a Natural Attack build of sorts.

Also possibly Loredrake, which might fit on the "overpowered" side.

Less overpowered, but still very good are wyrmling Dragon forms for alter self. For example, a CL4 kobold sorcerer could turn into a wyrmling Shadow Dragon, gaining increased land speed and flight (both at the alter self cap), +7 natural armor, tiny size, and keeping its ability to cast spells.

Even if you're not a spellcaster, there are plenty of classes that benifit from one or more of the mental stats.

The factorum would love the Int boost as would rogue and warblade.  If nothing else, Wis helps your Will saves, and swordsages get an AC boost as well as a DC boost to their maneuvers.  Several classes grant you +Cha to saves in some or all circumstances.

So, long answer short, it's a strict +3 boost to three mental stats at no cost to your physical stats.  Of course, you still have to deal with the solid hit to Str and Con for being a kobold.  If you can pull of the UA variant desert kobold, you can take the -2 hit on Wis instead of Con, which is superior in almost all cases.

This.

Edit(for highlights)
Free Marital Weapon Proficiency with Picks = entry into Abjurant Champion.
An additional +4 on Hide for a total of +8 as a size modifier, rogue/factotums rejoice!
Greater Draconic Rite of Passage = +1 sorcerer level. Finally you'll gain new spells as fast as the wizard does, for a heavy 3 feat investment >.>

Don't forget that according to the online suppliment, Kobolds can count as tiny for hide checks and for squeezing about.  That's extremely handy.

Don't forget that there's other sovereign archetypes besides Loredrake, too. Wyrm of War, for one, is nice (provided you take the bonus feat every 4 hd option, as maneuvers are based off Sorcerer level).

Where can I find Loredrake and Wyrm of War?

PS: Thanks for pointing me out the mistake, Bowen :lmao

Today? :eh

Assuming you meant 'where', all the archetypes can be found in Dragons Of Eberron :)

I'd ask why not, but the answer would probably make my head spin.

It's just yet another bonus kobolds give. You don't have to dip into a marital class or take a feat just to meet the martial weapons requirement of Abjurant Champion, though you would if you went Spellsword, Eldritch Knight, or Knight of Thorn.

I think he was referring more to not wanting "marital" weapons.   As opposed to martial weapons, which are clearly useful.

Personally, I think the world is big enough for both.
