Need help for my wizard.
« on: May 11, 2009, 02:55:53 PM »
Hi all! It's my first post here but I've been lurking for a while. I'm in need of some help for my new character. Here's the build.

Whisper Gnome N-E
Wizard 3 / Incarnate 2/ soulcaster 4
-Storm domain wizard variant.
STR - 12 (14-2)
DEX - 16 (14+2)
CON - 18 (16+2)
INT - 20 (18+2)
WIS - 10
CHA - 12 (14-2)
Feats: Incarnum Spellshaping, Spell Mastery, Uncanny Forethought, Versatile Spellcaster, Open Feat.
I have yet to choose my flaw but only one is allowed. All this is set in stone and cannot be changed.

I'm not sure where to go from there. I've got no idea as to which PrC to get after soulcaster to avoid XP penalty. The only feat that come to my mind is Bonus essentia as for the wizard side I'm in the dark.

Everything 3.5 and 3.0 not updated by WoTC is fair game, Dragon Magazine as well but everything must be validated by the DM. Incantatrix is banned unfortunatly.

What are you wanting to do with the char? Blaster, Battlefield control, just fishing so I know what help you need.

I'm leaning toward Battlefield control as it's lacking badly in our team. Being a blaster doesn't appeal to me with the presence of a duskblade and a warlock among my allies. Other are a fighter (tripper), rogue (dread pirate and all) and a cleric/rogue.

Sculpt Spell is a pretty awesome feat for BFC. You can by a Metamagic Rod of it, too. If you haven't, read through TreantMonk20's wizard guide. Four levels of Fatespinner and 1 level of Mindbender (for the Mindsight feat) are always good generic PrC dips to add to any wizard, if you don't have something more specific in mind.

Sculpt spell is my second favorite metamagic (first is invisible spell, just because it's so silly).  Make your grease spells four times as effective!  Shoot burning hands 120 feet!

Persistant sculpted body of the sun is awesome.  You need DMM to make it practical, but it's so worth it.
Linguist, Mad, Unique, none of these things am I
My custom class: The Priest of the Unseen Host

Treantmonk guide is awesome but the info it gives is too specific and kinda focused toward conjurer/transmuter which I am not. Sculpt spell is nice since I already have the rod. Mindbender 1 is a nice find. (how could I miss that :embarrassed) Fatespinner is good but doesn't fit thematically with what I have in mind. He's basically a treasure hunter but of the evil kind if that makes any sense, taking treasure for himself and always looking for more. Becoming an Incarnate was one of his treasure.

Soulcaster 4 was a minimum as it gives me the meldshaping of a Incarnate 6 with the crown/feet/hands chakra, 2 binds, 6 essentia and 4 soulmelds. Should I finish the PrC or try for something else.

What does mindsight do and where it's found?

Lords of Madness.

Feat Index:

Mindsight
LoM    126
A creature that has this feat possesses innate telepathic ability that allows it to precisely pinpoint other thinking beings within range of its telepathy.

If you're primarily a caster, why not Wizard 5 (can get you spont div.)/Inc1 (use open least chakra for the bind)/Soulcaster 3?

Make sure to grab some pearls of Incarnum power.  They RAW work with midnight metamagic, which is kinda awesome sauce.  Fell drain, anyone?

Unfortunatly I need to balance my base class to avoid XP penalty so wizard 5/incarnate 1 is out of the question. That's why I need to find one or more PrC.

There's a feat in Unearthed Arcana called Extra Favored Class, if you really like Wizard 5/Incarnate 1.

I'd look for the feat but as I said before what I have in the first post cannot be changed. I still have my 9th level feat left to fill before the next session this friday. I was thinking placing sculpt spell there but it force me to either continue soulcaster or find a PrC without feat requirement.

Best battle field control I ever saw,
10 levels in fate spinner, that feat that lets you dual wield rods, 2 rods of wonder working off of 2nd edition wild magic table.

you can get 3/4 the way there before your next level.
A player once asked me if there was any way to make a Tarrasque more evil... 3 sessions later he was stoned with D20s as the PC led an exidus out of the path of a Dire Tarrasque of Legendary Wonder.

fatespinner as been updated in the complete arcane. The Tome and blood version loses 4 level of spellcasting which is way too much since I've already lost 2. 2nd edition stuff is prohibited even if all our players enjoyed many days and nights of gaming.

Fatespinner is a 5 level long class. I think you must be talking about Wild Mage, or something. If you only take the 1st four levels, you don't lose any spellcasting levels, and you get the ability to boost your save DCs and some other interesting things. And the prereqs are very easy.

which class is it that lets you (legally) nudge certain dice rolls so many times a day?

Fatespinner can re-roll a skill check, attack roll or saving throw a number of times per day equal to his level, re-roll any roll once per day and force a re-roll to another creature once per day also.
Wild mage 3 allow 2 roll to be made when using a magic item with a randomly determined effect (like a rod of wonder) and choose between the two roll.

Assuming 2nd edition stuff, your suggestion would work...except the chaotic alignment requirement of wild mage.

I think it was wild mage, if you can get your DM to agree that Rods of Wonder use the 2nd edition wild magic table (the best effect table ever) then you're all set for some fun.

What about WizardX with Open Chakra feats?
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Might as well skip soulcaster all together in that case.

Wizard3/incarnate 2 is a fine entry, so long as you don't mind being a little behind.

Since you're a Gnom, why not get into Shadowcraft Mage(Races of Stone)?
All you need to get in:
4 ranks each in Bluff & Hide
Spellfocus(Illusion)
3 Illusion Spells in your Spellbook, one of them a 4th Level Shadow Illusion

The most powerful(or broken) combos I saw utilized Silent Image as Signature Spell(PGtF), heightened with Earth Spell to copy any Evocation or Conjuration(summoning & creation subschools only) on the Sorc/Wiz-Classlist.
But even without that copious amount of cheddar, this is a very useful PrC for Battlefield Control.

BTW: You might want to buy a Statbooster(Wisdom), to boost the Save-DC of your Soulmelds.
