q181) Can anyone explain how a mindflayer is able to actually grapple anyone successfully when all its tentacles simply end up being attached to the victim's head? By RAW, it seems that when it wins a grapple attempt (somehow), its tentacles attach to the victim's head...and he becomes unable to cast spells as though he were actually being grappled, simply because there are a few tentacles connected to his head?  ???

A181: I think the idea is that the Mind Flayer grabs the guy and physically grapples him to the ground, and in the process sticks tentacles to his head. It's supported by the rules of grappling, if not by the mechanics of a Mind Flayer in particular.

Alternatively, it's really hard to cast spells when there are tentacles on your head with an enzyme that is dissolving the hair, skin, and bone right off of your brain.
Agreed. And besides, those tentacles are long enough to hinder your mouth, so that at least hampers vocal components.

I'll re-ask because it got bumped back two pages:

Q 179:

Regarding the boosts Dancing/Raging Mongoose:

They are swift to activate and they state that you get one or two extra attacks at your full BAB.  Can you use this on a charge to get more than one attack?

Q187: Is there an Armor Enhancement somewhere that lets you add your armor's (base) AC bonus to Touch AC?

Can't recall anything off the top of my head, but there IS a weapon property that allows you to do the same. Spellbane, I think.

A187:Astral Driftmetal (+12k) allows you to add your armor bonus against incorporeal touch attacks. A suit of Gnome Twistcloth is added to your touch AC (I think). I think the twistcloth is exotic and does that with a feat.

Q188 Are there any feats that qualify you as having taken Combat Casting, but aren't combat casting? Similar to how there are ones for dodge, endurance, and the like? Really dislike that CC prereq for Abj Champ.

A 186: It involved the Renegade Mastermaker (Magic of Eberron), a PrC which turns you into a warforged. A link at 339 here: http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-543673 (unfortunately, it seems to be whitescreened)

The gist of it was taking all the cost reducing creation feats, then making slotless power crystals and embedding them into your body. The RM gives you a hit point boost for every embedded component, so you basically spend all your wealth pumping up your PP and HP. The blurb that I have in my handy links says you get around 500 or so, but I think later on in the thread they managed to crank it higher than that.

Aha!  If I'm reading the rules right, all magic items, including limited-use ones, can be converted to warforged components and embedded.

Enter the MIC's slotless 10 gp Blessed Bandage.

10 gp/hp is a rrrrather good price, wouldn't you agree?   :smirk

Optimize a little, and craft them yourself, and you can get it down to 3 gp/hp.  I think at that point the single point of xp rounds down...

Did they even try to balance Epic?

Yes, it is perfectly balanced for destroying the snot out of everything pre-epic.

Only if you can normally make full attacks at the end of a charge. Raging mongoose still requires that you use the full attack option to benefit from those extra attacks. It would not allow you to make those extra attacks as a free action (so you can't say, move, initiate a maneuver as a standard action, then follow up with 4 attacks from raging mongoose).
A clear conscience is the surest sign of a failing memory.

Q133: Synchronicity: Does it actually grant you an extra readied action, or does it just not cost you actions outside of the action in question to ready that action?

Remains unanswered. I'm concerned with the usefulness of the combination of Linked Power + Synchronicity, to gain an extra standard action to use in response to someone else's action. Possible?

You do not spend any action in order to gain the granted readied action. A twinned Synchronicity gives you two standard actions readied.

Well, Synchronicity itself has some kind of action cost, right? IIRC, it's also a standard. So you're basically trading a standard for two readied standards.

Q190: If a person has a Contingent Spell of Fire Shield, or any other spell that requires a decision to be made at the time of casting, when is that decided: During the crafting of the Contingent Spell, or when the conditions are fulfilled and the spell goes off? If the latter, who makes the decision: the caster or the 'holder' of the contingency?
