So a funny thing happened to my Paladin last night...
« on: March 21, 2009, 10:35:19 AM »
Currently running a Halfling Knight 2/Fighter 2/Knight +4/Dragonrider 1/Cleric 1/Prestige Paladin 2 of Bahamut. Last session, we met Bahamut in person. He gave me a holy quest, and an enhanced holy symbol. Basically, for the remainder of the campaign, my Paladin levels are full spellcasting progression rather than half! What awesome fun can I have with this?

Current feats (no retraining): Animal Affinity, Combat Reflexes, Mounted Combat, Ride-By Attack, Spirited Charge, Power Attack, Skill Focus (Ride), Weapon Focus (Lance), Dragonfriend

Stats (inc magic items) 17/18/14/13/17/22. Base Wis is only 11, unfortunately, I didn't realise I'd be going into Paladin when I first made the character. Books allowed, the DM isn't a great fan of splat, but it's a high-powered game and I'm reasonably persuasive :D

Also, the Draconomicon is considered tantamount to core for this campaign - it's very dragon-centric.

Since you've already lost 9 casting levels, you don't need your wisdom too bad. You'll end up with a fairly strong character boasting 6th level spells in endgame. Some good stuff to do would include Divine Metamagic, which is perfect for the games of the high-powered variety. You certainly have a ridiculous charisma. Just pump your wisdom all day long with stat increases and items and you should end up with decent buffing abilities.

What domains do you have? Is Complete Champion allowed? If you can get complete champion in, be careful because it's got battle blessing, which quickens all of your pally spells. If you DM's cool with letting you quicken all your prestige paladin castable spells, go to fucking town. If not, then oh well. Still, take Travel Devotion, for extra movement followed by a full attack, and getting into better flanking position and crap. You have enough Turns, so use it often. Also, Law devotion is freaking great.

I took the Luck and Good domains. As for Complete Champion, the less splat I use, the happier the DM will be. That said, I might well be able to talk him into things, especially if it's not obviously cheesy at first glance.

Battle Blessing would count as cheesy. The Devotion feats - and probably Law Devotion in your case - are your best bets.
+5 on attack rolls and then trading that for +10 damage with your 2-handed lance (tripled on a charge with spirited charge).

Plus you're not sacrificing power for flavor or flavor for power. You're the iron fist (err..lance?) of the LAW.

Feat also has versatility to instead give the bonus to AC(including touch AC) in case making someone go splat with your charge draws most of the "aggro" to you.
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

Oh, believe me, the aggro won't be going to this character. This is just a cohort- the main character is effectively gestalt Copper Dragon 20//Bard 10/Sublime Chord 2/Virtuoso 8. We're all playing dragons.

Law Devotion is +7, not +5. Knowledge Devotion is +5.

Hey, one of the party is actually a divine rank 0 Platinum dragon. There's some serious LA on that, though.

Tricking your DM is a bad thing.

Hence why I didn't suggest just writing it on my character sheet and hoping he didn't notice. Talk into != tricking. Talk into = Diplomacy check. Trick = Bluff check.

seems cheesy at first glance = dismissed out of hand, regardless of reality

Doesn't seem cheesy at first glance = able to be talked to abou just why it's not so bad
