Sanctified one of Wee Jas
« on: January 09, 2009, 03:27:41 PM »
I decided to eventually read the actual wording of Sanctified One of Kord's divine damage trick, but stumbled upon this:

Quote from: Complete champion
Sanctified Eall (Su): If you are reduced to -1 or fewer hit points, or even killed outright by a death effect, you can use an immediate action to either cast a spell or make a single attack. For this action only, you can increase your either your effective caster level or your bonus on attack rolls (your decision) by an amount equal to your sanctified one level.
It's only for Wee Jas people, but you don't actually have to worship any deity.

Is this actually a decent find? I figured Ruby Knight Vindicators could use that, but I suppose it's even better for Ur-Priests if they qualify with full BAB classes alone.

Paladin of Tyranny 3/Hexblade 2/Sanctified One of Wee Jas 1/Ur-Priest 2/PrC the rest. Technically you could use that immediate action to cast Revivify on yourself, since it doesn't say the casting happens before your death...

Another thought: Imagine the flavour: Ur-Priest steals everything, even immortality from gods he hates.

Edit: Incidentally, it doesn't say what kind of spell can you cast. Craft yourself a Contingent Revivify+Heal and start tossing around immediate action Apocalypses from the sky.

Well, since it says
Quote
you can use an immediate action to either cast a spell or make a single attack.
I think it's pretty clear that you have to use your own personal spell slots. This is still quite good, as it would allow you to, say, shapechange into solars earlier, with the diehard feat, or get greater magic weapons up to +5 sooner, or cast more mirror images or something. Note it says reduced to -1 or fewer, not actually knocked out. You can just get someone to throw small shuriken at you while you have fast healing 1 from vigor or something, and lo and behold, you have free caster levels.

EDIT: Ah, I see what you're saying. You mean you could cast a spell with a long casting time. Well, that's certainly a nice trick. I think that that would work, indeed.

I posted this in the dirty trick handbook. You get more credit than me. This is a cool thing, I like it.

It's like contingency: free action :p
Be careful not to use your immediate action for that turn however :P

I'd like to call this "Death By Foresight".

Wow, Tshern I think you are the first person to point out that this was a FREE ACTION.

I knew about it before but now its reached a whole new level of cheese. Mind if I jack it for my "cleric THAT JUST WON'T DIE" build?

I see some dark clouds coming towards your parade, sir...

It is an immediate action. Incidentally, free actions can generally only be used on your turn; speech is a fine exception to this rule though. Feel free to use this trick, we probably don't have copyrights on our findings, huh? Hopefully I didn't totally ruin your pleasure.

RKVs just got stronger, since they can just bloody BUY the swift actions they need without using their immediates.

They are still limited to a single immediate action a round, since they eat your next turn's swift action...

Sure, but they can still change stance or use a swift action maneuver, which is a big plus.

And, assuming you enter with Cleric 4/Crusader 1, you lose a total of 4 caster levels, so no 9th level spells.
You could enter as a pure Cleric with Martial Study/Stance feats ofcourse, but then you'd lose your recovery mechanic and can only use each maneuver once per encounter IIRC...

Other than that, it's pretty sweet, and fits great flavorwise :)

Well, you have to lose somewhere :).

It's absolutely great for Epic, though.

Oh yeah, you could make an epic spell that requires ten days to cast (I think mitigating factors won't go further than this, I could be wrong) and cast that as an immediate action. Perhaps some awesome destruction spell of DOOM. Have it include a resurrection of some sort, so you avoid dying too (or just make sure one of your epic spells is Contingent True resurrection).
