Narius
« Reply #80 on: June 06, 2008, 08:44:41 PM »
The tower goes up higher than we can see, yes?
I'm going to see how high this thing goes up.
Narius flies up for 2 rounds, looking for the top of the tower, and glides back down.  This takes him up almost 50', unless he sees the top first at which point he comes down.

Narius is able to make out the tower roof fairly soon. It looks like the tower is approximately 50 feet tall, so the top comes into sight after he's only flown for 10'.

The entire tower is without feature or window. The roof has a slight slope to it, to keep rain from pooling on top, but looks to be made of solid stone. The sort of thing a wizard could make with a lot of time and Wall of stone. How she keeps her plants alive is another matter, though.

Myrd, seeing the slow process of solving this trap, cracked his knuckles and stepped into the room. Mind if I take a look? If I can I'll figure this thing out and disarm it. With that, Myrd cast his Extended Mage Armor upon himself, always one to be prepared if something goes wrong with the trap. He then begins to closely examine the area around and near the door , cautious of staying out of the range he saw the creature from the bag of tricks disappear.

Search Check:1d20+14=21

OOC
Does anyone mind if I take a 20 on the Search check? It's not like we're in a rush or anything, and I'd rather not be teleported and transmuted in whatever way into some dark basement with a Hydra or something.
While there's most likely some sort of trap on the door, given its magic aura, you are unable to find it.

OOC
Yeah, you'll need to take 20, probably. The only thing that's really counting down is the detect magic, that's got CL minutes on it, but with so many arcanists in the room, including a beguiler, I think there's plenty Detect Magic to spare.

Frustrated at his inability to find the trap, Myrd went at his searching with more focus and precision, inspecting every little detail down to its base.

Search Check: 34, I took a 20.

OOC
You guys are free to do as you want during my search, but you might want to clear out when I try to disarm it, bad things may happen. If it goes off, I'll have to take one for the team, but hopefully my healing belt will allow me to live me. If I do go into negatives, it'd be nice if someone gave me a bit of healing. But if I am teleported away from the rest of you, that could be trouble...
What do you mean, "Slow process?"  I was just about to open the door! Feeling slightly offended, Dolos picks up the cat and steps back far enough to stay reasonably safe from the blast he thought bound to come when the amateurs go to work. Get back here, Hearth. You dont get to stay around that door when he starts cracking knuckles. In my face nontheless.

There's clearly a magic sigil trap on the door. This one looks as if it's primed to trigger when the door is open, rather than when someone goes through it.

That's where I have everyone right now. Narius is outside examining the tower, and could either come in during the searching of the door, or could stay outside. The front door and the door to room two are both held open with some kind of nail in the hinge mechanism.

Also, we can assume that you hold open any other doors the same way, unless you mention otherwise.

Myrd, having successfully determined how the trap is triggered, looks back to Dolos and Hearth. This door is similar to the last one. I hardly see the need for me to disarm this trap when we can simply poke it open again. He smiled wryly over at Dolos. Well my friend, it seems like your method has better chances than mine does. I'd rather not screw something up and die when we can simply poke our way through. With that, Myrd stepped out of Dolos' way, gesturing for him to continue his poking.

OOC
I misread the earlier post, I thought we were still trying to get through the other door. But I've reread it, and now see that the patented poke method was working just fine. I'd rather not die when we can just poke these bad boys open instead. ;)
Suddenly as full of himself as usual, and with a new appreciation that amateurs can make the right decisions now and then too, Dolos answers No, you should have the honors, having gone to all that trouble checking the door for anything that might fire in this direction. And with that he borrows his 10foot pole to Myrd, kicks the  cat in the direction of the door and drags Hearth with him a few more steps back.

OOC

I`m kind of herding Hearth away from the door so Mimimi wont find himself char-less when he wakes up tomorrow morning.

Myrd glanced down at the pole in his hands, unsure of whether he liked this idea, but seeing no other options, he turned towards the door, cat and pole in hand.  He then took his own 10ft pole out from his haversack, along with his silk rope. He next cut off about a 2ft long length with his dagger, and, with his ingenious plan, tied the two poles together (took a 10 to tie a firm knot).  The superpole is perhaps around 18ft long, being shortened by the tying, but Myrd was satisfied with the reach he now had.  Putting everything back into his sack except the pole, Myrd was ready for his attempt.  Struggling with it's unwieldiness, Myrd stood as far from the door as he could, hefted the pole into position, and jabbed it at the door, hoping to push it open.

OOC
I'm doing this hoping someone will heal me if I am brought into negatives. You're welcome to use my healing belt if you like.
Narius is going to stick with the "rear" (non-trap-searching) grouping.
You know, most of you speak Terran.  I could just call an Earth elemental to open the door.

With that, the entire floor of room two turned into a thick sludgy mud, into which our heroes immediately started to sink.

Reflex DC 17 or be trapped in the mud. Gonna call it a night now, so roll your reflex saves Myrd, Hearth and Dolos. The cat made her save and easily ran back into room 1.

Gimme that! Dolos shouts at Myrd, grabbing his own pole. He then uses it to try and stake the mud, using it to stay on top of it while he shouts Heeelp us goddamnit! With all his lungs to the rest of the team outside and grabs the silk rope from his sack, tying one end to Hearth and throwing the other with all his might to the door they used to enter. With that out of the way he starts trying to move towards to entrance, actively using his pole to stay on top of things. (Either pushing against the bottom or using it to float, whatever works)

As Myrd began to sink, he yelled out at Narius, Well, that would've been nice if you mentioned that BEFORE I poked the door! Stripped of his pole so rudely, Myrd then tried desperately to escape the mud pulling him down.

Reflex Save: 1d20+6=21

After freeing himself from the mud, Myrd saw Dolos and Hearth struggling in the mud. He then moved as fast as he could to reach him. Upon reaching the two, Myrd attempted to pull Dolos out of the grasping mud.

Strength Check: 1d20-1=18

OOC
I'd like to know, did my poking of the door open it? Or is it still closed? Man that strength check was lucky.
Noticing the cat running of onto hard ground, Dolos takes a firm grasp on his runestaff and starts muttering incantations. Seconds later, Dolos appears where the cat was standing and the cat is nowhere to be seen. One can only guess what happened to it.

If Hearth fails her save, Dolos does this:
Quickly he pulls a bat out from his bag of tricks, again muttering incantations and staring intently at Hearth, still struggling in the mud. Nothing happens. Looking really scared, he tries once more. (Now going at my fourth round after the mudbath struck) Suddenly the bat disapears, Hearth standing all muddy at his side.

OOC
I used my runestaff to cast benign transportation on me and the poor little cat. I`m assuming the cat arrived a few feet down in the mud, not on top. Seems to make the most sense. Same thing with Hearth and the bat. Ofcourse, this is all hoping I get that far before turning into a crisp.
Rolls:
I need a UMD check to use my runestaff. DC20. So statistically I`m dead... Wish me luck. (1d20 8=25)

Using runestaff with benign transposistion to move Hearth out of the mud requires a second UMD roll.  (1d20 8=14)

Pulling a third animal from my bag of tricks (1d100=19)

Second UMD to pull Hearth from the mud. (1d20 8=22)

Jered bounds backwards as he feels the floor turning to mush under his feet.  The sucking sound as the mud almost pulls his boot off at the last step echos through the mud-filled chamber.

Hearth, Jered and Myrd all scramble out of the mud and back into the first room with the rest of the party. Dolos, on the other hand, uses a magical spell to swap places with the unfortunate cat. Moments after the four make it back to stable ground, the floor returns once again to stone.

The cat mewls pitiably; it was unable to escape the grasping mud before the floor changed back to stone. It is now trapped, its feet encased in stone.
