Do we have a dirty trick handbook?
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:28:09 PM »
Topic!

The idea is to collect each and every dirty trick in the book. The hideously broken shit. The worst of the worst. The stuff in 3.5 that gives DMs nightmares AND the runs at the same time. The combos that make every min/maxer have a freaking evilgasm!

Don't just mention them, though. Give a semi-extensive explanation on how it works.

Example: everyone knows Candle of Invocation is all sorts of broken. Not everyone knows why. Everyone knows (in theory) what diplomancers are, not everyone knows how they work.

Let the crap hit the fan!

EDIT: Incidentally, PlzBreakMyCampaign has been working on ways to stop the silliness behind each of these. http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3288.0

Shapechange and infinite Wishes to break the economy, game and sanity: Shapechange allows the character to change his form once per round as a free action. Fiend Folio introduces a monster called Zodar that has Wish once per year as a supernatural ability. This means that once per round you can turn into a Zodar as a free action and cast a Wish, which has multiple uses seeing that there now is no experience cost whatsoever. Rinse and repeat until you are kicked out from the game.

No problem.  I worry that #3 appears, on my screen, to be destined for WSoO (White Screen of Oblivion) unless we actively save it; the more people who copy it down in some way, the easier that is to do.

Ahh, the White Screen Of Death.
Created when the TO-board was folded (back) into the Co-board during one of GZ's "episodes".
Dang, oh well.

InnaBinder - wow.
Any tricks to searching the web.archive.org site?
I managed to save some of LoP's Omni, and then someone provided a link.
But I like to find stuff, without the extra ~wiping help.
Show me once, I'll toddle on my own ... I promise.

1) Find the thread you're looking for.
2) Note a thread number at the end of the URL
3) Open the Archive to a thread you know exists, like LoP's #1.
4) Backspace out the thread number referenced at the end of the archive's URL, and sub in the thread number you're trying to find.
5) Profit.

It just occurred to me. Can you use Binder with the Army of Clones? It DOES mention class levels, and Binding isn't spellcasting.

Though the actual practical applications of this may be a little short.

I've been meaning to make a "Stupid Caster Tricks" thread for a while now, and may yet do it.  The big ones though:

Shapechange to gain spellcasting

Arcane Genesis for a Flowing Time 10,000,000 plane that's also Timeless

The Haunt Shift trick

Love's Pain assassination

Shadow Conjuration: Major Creation (for Black Lotus Poison)

Those ones are the major game breakers that I can think of offhand, though the last is the most tame.
