The Simple Supermount
« on: September 10, 2008, 06:24:09 AM »
Many folks have heard of the Supermount... basically, a build that results in having a rediculous mount.  It's cool, but it's very late to get into swing and the main character is pretty darn weak.  So here's a simpler version that works with non halflings.

Fey Divine Bard 17/Sacred Exorcist 1/PrC Paladin of Freedom  2 (Varient classes found in UA)

Fey Bard 1 Extend Spell
Fey Bard 2
Fey Bard 3 Persistant Spell
Fey Bard 4
Fey Bard 5
Fey Bard 6 Mounted Combat
Fey Bard 7
Sacred Exorcist 1
PrC Paladin of Freedom 1 Natural Bond
PrC Paladin of Freedom 2
Fey Bard 8
Fey Bard 9 Devoted Tracker
Fey Bard 10
Fey Bard 11
Fey Bard 12 Holy Mount
Fey Bard 13
Fey Bard 14
Fey Bard 15 Divine Metamagic: Persistant Spell
Fey Bard 16
Fey Bard 17

In the end, you have a 23rd level Paladin mount and a 20th level Animal Companion, which are combined into one.  Plus, you can use DMM for Persistant spells, and you get all Bard spells plus all Paladin only spells, which is pretty darn handy.

If I could get into Sacred Exorcist faster, this would work better, as I could get into Paladin earlier and thus get Devoted Tracker faster.  Not sure how to pull it off though.  Not sure what should go in that last feat slot either.  But still, it's a fun little build concept.

winters mount is decent if you go with a gold dragon mount. Changing the vulnerability to cold with immunity

Yeah, but right now I've only got one feat left to spend after getting the mount, and it's being used for DMM.

I think the Dragon Mounts are pretty badass, especially when advanced via Animal Companion HD.

Unless I'm missing something, wouldn't your free feat need to be Mounted Combat to qualify for PrC Paladin?

Palladin of Freedom is still a Palladin...

It is a nice build, though.
[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

I'm also wondering exactly what's meant by "PrC Paladin of Freedom."  Last I checked, Paladin of Freedom isn't a prestige class...

hmm ...
Paladin of X ---> http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#paladinVariantsFreedomSlaughterAndTyranny
Prestige Paladin ---> http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/prestigiousCharacterClasses.htm#prestigePaladin

Interesting conflation of the two. And probably do-able, outside of holy raw.
LG Bard - maybe that level 6 feat can be used for the alignment switch-a-roo necessary to pull it off.

No, I'm the one missing something!  I can change that.

@Phaedrus:  I was sleepy.  I meant non halflings.

@Calic:  PrC Paladin is from UA.  Paladin of Freedom is from UA.  You'd have to combine the varients.

Where is that Holy Mount feat from? I haven't looked at many supermount builds, but I'm guessing it's a staple.
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
[spoiler]Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.

It's sadly Dragon magazine... you can find it in the Crystal Keep feat list.

Dragon 325.  The article's "A Surge of Theurgy," and it's on page 61 or so.

The fact that I know this when 1) I haven't looked in a year and 2) I'm drunk is a really sad commentary on my life.
Anyway, this cake is great!  It's so delicious and moist.

Okay, that's what I thought.  I'm not personally a fan of that school of thought, but I can see where some DMs would allow it as a houserule.
