And while I'd like to think of myself as the Japanese Chairman, given my physique, I'm afraid I look more like the Bill Shatner version...
Looking...like...William Shatner...is...never...a bad thing.
Fixed that for you :)
:lol

Heard him and Nimoy singing? It's... unspeakable.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

You do realize that they give the chefs a list of possible secret ingredients before taping, right?

They also don't give the chefs a week to cook. ;)

I agree with Caelic and Chemus, knowing that the ingredient comes from Complete + Core is enough of a lead. Combine it with the one week cooking time and you're golden for ingredient knowledge and time. :P

Also, PI, you never cease to make me laugh :clap

I would love to compete in this. I'm not a particularly competent optimizer, but I learn quick and like to crunch numbers/mess around with obscure class combinations. Plus I have way too much free time since getting to college...

I call shenanigans.  I've had less free time since college.  At least for internets.

Well, as I was unable to get any internet connection at my home and have a cable connection here, and as I'm a first year Business Major at a state technical college, my circumstances are probably slightly different from your own.  :D

I would also be up for this whenever we get around to it  :D

(Also, I actually like Shatner's version of Rocketman better than Elton John's.  The only Nimoy song I can remember is the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins though...)

I'll throw my hat in the ring as a potential judge. I don't have time to enter any contests right now.

I thought the pantry was limited to what you brought with you + the secret ingredient.

What if you had to declare like...a fixed # feats/PrCs/skills/items/etc that you were bringing with you to the kitchen and were only allowed to use those + the secret ingredient?  So this can be like a handicap - the more you bring with you, the lower your maximum potential score.  The less you bring with you, the higher your potential score.

It's an interesting idea, PI, and I think it would make for interesting challenges...but coming up with a scoring system of that sort and keeping track of how many sources were allowed/used might be more complicated than it's worth.  I'd lean towards keeping things simple to start, and then adding in twists later to keep things fresh.

Caelic makes a very solid argument. If we were to use PI's idea, now or later, it seems to me that the regular scoring would work, then adjust by number of sources. Perhaps a point for fewer than 3, and another for using just 1? I was going to say 'divide by' number of sources, but that is neither clean nor fair.

I do like that idea as it would praise those who stayed within the limits of the player's handbook, a hard challenge these days with so many supplements.

So how long you estimate before we can start this thing? I'm itching!

Finding an equitable scoring system is going to be hard anyway.  Might as "do it right" this time.

Alright, having researched Iron Chef and their rating system I have attempted to create a skeletal base structure. What do you think of something like this?

Build
Structure (how optimized the build is) = 10 points
Originality (with added bonus if not many resources are used) = 5(+1 or 2) points
Presentation (how good or fun the build looks to play) = 5 points

?

Are we going to evaluate the structure on all levels or just the end result? I know they don't give points for raw potatoes in Iron Chef either, but in D&D it would make sense. Or, alternatively, we could have variable starting levels, so we wouldn't always do lvl 20 stuff.

Maybe that could be one way to score a build--how many levels it takes for the ingredient to be introduced and become an important aspect of the build (and how central the ingredient is to the build's effectiveness), etc.  Also, how many levels the build is useful for i.e. is it gimped for the first few levels or if it runs out of steam at high levels.  Maybe some sort of "relevance" score and/or a "effective levels" score.

Would there be a bonus for using obscure races and monster classes as ways of getting common abilities (Pounce, Caster level requirements, spell requirements, etc)?
