Not as far as I know.  I guess it wouldn't hurt to place all the guidelines from the DMG and the MIC together into one thread.  At work so don't have the time to look at both books in detail but I will start it off by contributing the simple rule from the DMG that any slotted item can be made as slotless by doubling its cost.

Extraordinary Artisan, Legendary Artisan, and ----- Artisan reduce crafting time, crafting expense, and crafting XP (irrespectively).

There have been a few threads related to this. The most memorable one was the "Experience is a River" thread, IMO.

CLASS'S

any caster  - unless otherwise allowed, Item creation feats require a caster lvl
Warlock 12 - Create items without prereqs, based on UMD
Artificer     - Craft feats as class feature

Just a note on Warlock 12.  They STILL need the Item Creation Feat and the caster level, they can just trick the item with UMD to cover spells needed in making the item.

Which brings us to Warlock 12/Chameleon 2 for the feat you can change every day based on what you are trying to create.

if i were a warlock 12, my first item created or otherwise aquired would be a "      " of alter self. one free feat when ever you need it..

I think that's the hardest part. You can always work with another person to get access to the feats and/or spells required, unless the DM or campaign prevents it somehow. If you're really hard-core about item crafting, you can take the feats to speed it up, and reduce the cost in XP and/or gold. But that's about all there is to optimize about it, I think. Unless you want to go for extra-cheesy with Similicrum's, bound Efreet, and that kind of stuff...

isnt that the sorta thing that goes on around here?

Is that what you're looking for? Cheese?

Similacrum emulated via Shades can give you a pseudo-clone of any item crafter you want, then. For no XP, and no nail clippings needed.

Or bind Efreet via Planar Binding, and make them wish for magic items for you.

Then copy them via Astral Projection, while dodging your DMs DMG.

Something that might be viable and allowed by a DM would be to boost your caster level to qualify for crafting feats earlier than normal. There are lots of ways to do this, including a thread devoted to it, so I won't elaborate here. I had a character that did this, but that was for a very high-powered game.

Shades only duplicated Conjuration spells, I thought. Simulacrum is Illusion. How're you duping it, Phaedrus?

Oops. I thought it was a Conj (Creation) spell... I didn't bother looking.  :-[

There is one on 339, but I don't have a link... I'm sure you can probably find it via the Surreal-Dex.
