Is this workable in RAW envionment?
« on: August 12, 2008, 06:51:15 PM »
  Conjurer(banned Enchantment, Evocation)//Necromancer(banned Enchantment, Evocation)

On a seperate note, can you guys help me with some idea for Presitige classes and/or class dipping? What I have in mind is the Controller/Debuffer(buffing is taken care of by DMM cleric, go figure :P).

No Dragon magazine stuff, WotC stuff only, no Savage Spiecies, setting-specific materials is suggested to be kept in a minimal, 2 flaws maximum, 2.5~3 level of cheese, RP requirements for classes are somewhat enforced

I don't think you can take the same class on both sides of your gestalt build.

Why would you want to do that when you can be Conjurer//Illusionist and take that tasty, tasty ScM trickiness? :P

But, yeah. I don't think you can take wizard on both sides, but I don't think it is written that you can't either...

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm#buildingAGestaltCharacter

"To make a 1st-level gestalt character, choose two standard classes. (You can also choose any of the variant classes, .) Build your character according to the following guidelines."

It's impossible RAW.
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

Wizard//Archivist, Wizard//Artificer, and Wizard//Erudite all manage the extra flexibility without having RAW issues. Focused Specialist Conjuror/Incantatrix//StP Erudite is just silly.
I know gameology-fu.

I am partial to the Beguiler//Focused Conjurer (banning evocation, illusion and enchantment) myself. Slap a Shadowcraft Mage on that baby and you lose zero flexibility while getting dual Int-based casting and more skill points that you can shake a stick at. As an added bonus, you get Trapfinding too.

Wizard//Archivist does the same thing, really, except you get even more spell access.  I'd go with that.

To get closest, I would say Wizard//Erudite with the Spell to Power alternate class feature. That will allow you to have wizard(ish) casting on both sides of the class.

I know wizard//Beguiler is versitile, but I feel very underwhelmed about Enchantment(hence the ban on both sides), and my DM is more than likely to dish out chanllenges that hampers(or completely stops)mind-affecting abilities, (where apliciable, of course).

My thing about Archivist is that they rely on what they get TOO much, IMO.

I have not played a Psionic charater before, that really sounds interesting though...... Spell to power......Does that means I can turn my spells into Psion powers, so that I can pass as a Psion?

Major props to everyone contributed. You guys rock!

While Wizard//Dread Necromancer fulfils the OP's idea of having a necromancer in the build, I agree that the Wizard//Archivist idea is much stronger (and also less MAD!).  I'd suggest this route as well.

Hell, with the flexibility the Archivist provides, you could probably run a focused Conjurer instead of a regular specialist, and have all those extra spell slots.  You could drop Enchantment and Evocation easily.  My suggestion for a 3rd drop would probably be Abjuration.  You get Dispel Magic on the Archivist side anyway, which is usually the hardest thing to give up when you drop Abjuration.
