Help with Character
« on: October 08, 2011, 10:55:05 AM »
My friends and I are doing a new campaign, running level 1-?. I need an Ardent "tanking" style build that's effective from 1-20 just in case. Pretty much everything's a go since this isn't a very serious campaign, and I can probably get away with 1 flaw. The rest of the party is 1cleric, 1 sorcerer, 1 Blue Mage (the homebrew class), 2/3 rogues, and me, so I can get pretty ridiculous, what with being the only melee combatant. With that, I leave it with you guys and hope for a reply. :D

edit: Doesn't HAVE to be Ardent, but i really like the class

That was somewhat misleading on my part. Think of it as self-confidence, self-image, the ego, and other such things, not people skills. Someone with a low Charisma who goes insane is probably suffering crippling self-doubt or has a skewed perception of him/herself (or, given the power of the entities in the Cthulhu mythos, an accurate perception of his or her place in the universe).

Psicrystal Affinity with Vigor + Share Pain combo, potentially made utterly ridiculous by the Dominant Ideal ACF in the Mind's Eye articles.

In other words, you're basically invincible.  Do whatever floats your boat for offense.

With so many casters, as well as squishy rogue, a Lockdown-type build may be in order.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.

Lockdown that comes online on level 2:

Human Wolf Totem Barbarian 2

Feats: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (spiked chain), Combat Reflexes. You get Improved Trip at level 2. Work from there.

Remember to also pick up whirling frenzy and a spirit lion totem.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

Wonder when people will start calling this setup "Panther Totem" like I do...

IMO, "Fleshraker Totem" fits better.

If I were level 2, I wouldn't call a Barbarian a "kitten."

I would.

If my DM gave me bonus exp for being in character.

Does your DM give bonus XP for being dead?
