mtg: commander aka edh: what is some of your favorite generals?
« on: October 05, 2011, 10:31:33 PM »
im looking for fun, not really overpowered... even though sometimes op can be very fun.

i like:

reasons:  1)mill is nice
             2)you get creatures from her
3)her mill isnt just mill its removal mill(screw you big 3 eldrazi)
4)one of the best color combos in all of magic
             5)bring out

and

now you only use her ability for 3(multiple times of course) and only pay u/b for it

reasons 1)bring out

           2)bring out

           3)bring out

           4)bring out

           5)bring out bosh
6)bring out any permanent with a decent mana cost
           7)use bosh's artifact fling
           8)???
           9)profit

reasons: his ability is just fun and a little more amazing then most people realize. his ability does something special once you use it on the same creature multiple times. it doesn't stack but it does give them different instances of Bushido 1. which is far far far better then stacking instances of Bushido 1.
and well, he has an amazing mana cost.

reasons: 1)amazing mana cost
             2)great colors
             3)insane abilities
4)great for a full on elf edh deck(which i own and it is insane)

Been doing very successful thanks to Toshiro Umezawa. I have a primer on him over at MTGS.

Not a big fan of Commander

That being said, Karn would be my Commander and screw your rules if walkers can't be commanders. Simply so I can play him more often. I have a mind rape based mill deck that isn't even remotely close to being about milling your opponent ASAP (also prone to changing cards to keep it fresh and new to me). Like I ran Book Burning & Quick Silver Dagger to pose a false dilemma on the player. At some point I had Memory Erosion in there to blend the lines of punishment and pleasure. Currently I have Sadistic Sacrament to crush your hopes and dreams. Karn got thrown in as the ultimate mind screw; it was all just a nightmare. Even if I just milled away your deck, I'd still use him to reset and do it all over again! Oh the horrors  :D

Plus you know, I really do want the epic win of mulliganing to zero.

Even if you could use Karn Liberated as your general, this much is impossible to do. You cannot run Barren Glory in a colorless deck.

Ooooh right, your colors are limited to the general.

Srsly though, ELD rules work fine if you use a Walker. It's a permanent you cast, you can attack it, etc. Consider building a walker as your commander some time, invent a 3rd new name and dub it a "walker" format or w/e if it makes you happy.

They've done that over at MTGS. It turns out that Tezzeret the Seeker and Liliana Vess are dangerously overpowered by comparison, even to JTMS. Tezzeret was good enough to get banned because his tutor effect puts the card into play.

Rith, the Awakener
Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

Those are the three I am working on right now. Karador and Rith both have decks made, but Rith needs to be redone. Niv I still to do TONS of cutting.

BTW, why are we not in the tabletop subforum?

Expected. Any great Nicol Bolas centered decks?

cus like the Min/Max forum a few OPs have no clue how to post in the correct subforum?

One or two. Most decks couldn't deal with him in a timely manner though. This was pre-SoM block, so the only real answer to Planeswalkers was Pithing Needle. Which is one reason the Tezzeret deck was so good: Trinket Mage and a ton of 1/0 drop Artifacts designed to abuse Tezzeret's ability, and then a Contagion Clasp (came in the EvT Precon) for improving Tezzeret himself.

I use Myrs for infinite mana. And Coretapper :D

In fact for humor I made an infinite deck. Clearwater Goblet, Lux Cannon, Grindstone, Nithil Spellbomb, Clock of Omens, and the self replicating Myr I think. Reshapes/Tinkers/Tezzert/Diviner's Rod/etc for support. Basically, your library is milled, your hand is discarded, every permanent you own in play is destroyed, and then your graveyard is removed from the game. IE you have no cards to even play the game. I on the other hand have infinite life, creatures, mana and are currently debating on how to kill you. and the entire thing plays about at medium/slow speed give or take despite being such a card extensive combo. And the first game I played with it I lost, after the combo was going. I skipped drawing everything out of the deck and went for the kill off the infinite creatures. I took 1 damage for each attacking creature and was Fogged. I lol'ed soda out of my nose too.

I currently have a Zur The Enchanter deck that is pretty hard core, I still need a few more auras for him, but by and large he can suddenly kill a player when he attacks with double strike and empyrial armour. And he is easy to make unblockable as well.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.
