Mark of Making question.
« on: September 05, 2011, 03:05:08 AM »
I got a question about Mark of Making.

The Artificer guide says that Mark of making and its 3 feats to get the max number of advantages out of the Mark of Making.  So my question is, with True creation 1/day from Mark of making, does that mean that I can nullify having to get the GP worth of materials to make items ?

Or do I still pay both GP and XP despite the fact the True creation thing allows you to create the GP worth of materials already ?

If I am wrong please explain ?

Here it is.

The Siberys Mark of Making grants the spell-like ability
of true creation once per day. Add the following
sentence to the Mark of Making paragraph:
The heir of Siberys must pay the normal XP cost of the
true creation spell (see page 117) each time he uses this
ability

So if I make an item thats 21000 worth of GP, thats 21000 XP instead then do I do the normal 21000 / 25 then use the Artisan feat that drops XP by an additional 25% ? and what is the calculation of 25%? 0.75?

And does that mean I no longer pay the GP cost ?

Also will Magical Artisan which drops Costs of items down to 75% rather then 100%, does that help to reduce the cost of XP as well ?

Then we move to the spell source: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/divine/spells/trueCreation.htm

XP Cost

This means a 1:1 GP:XP exchange rate, sadly.

So for simplicity sake, a Mark of Making Human is suboptimal ?

Siberys?  Yes.  You can take 2 feats to get Minor Creation as an SLA, though, and with 1 more beyond that you can get either Major Creation or Fabricate, plus an extra daily use of Minor Creation.  That's far from terrible.

The point is that the cost reduction feats do not work for Mark of Making, they are for crafting magic items, while the Mark is a spell component.

You use the Mark of Making together with good craft skills to create temporary things like alchemicals or poisons for utility.

"Just what do you think the moon up in the sky is? Everyone sees that big, round shiny thing and thinks there must be something round up there, right? That's just silly. The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

But not True Creation.  True Creation really isn't worth the effort.
