Sounds like a core-only game.

Easiest way is for the wizard to cast Grease under it, then let the Rogue and Paladin beat on it, maybe with some help from the (possibly Wildshaped) Druid and her animal companion.

Really, it will go down fairly quickly without posing much threat.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

Why would you even do this? It hurts my eyes and looks like you ate your keyboard before suffering an attack of explosive diarrhea.

If using Genesis to hide your phylactry, set it at -300 degrees farenheit.  See how do-gooders fare with a liquid atmosphere.

Is this a gigant, or a stone giant we are talking about?  This is an important distinction because one is a big fleshy thing and the other is a MM2 construct that could easily be a TPK depending on your level.

You could correct the subject line.. :)

Stone giant's CR is 8 (or 9 if it is an elder). An elder could be a sorcerer (3-6 level) as well (10% chance) in which case the CR is higher. So most likely you can take on it and win.

Be mindful of the terrain. If possible the druid could cast entangle to make things difficult for the giant. As mentioned above grease is also superb.

Although I would suggest that if the DM really wants you to talk to the giant then you'd better do it. Maybe he has some story related hooks in his mind. So kill it after you have talked to it ;)

In my humble opinion, CO is haberdashery. Some say we're mad, but we can all agree we're hatters. Yes, we have potential to make very sophisticated hats, very fancy hats, be they dark or light. But the truth is that the color of the hat does not come from the group of us - our community doesn't directly produce hats. We simply give average head circumferences, list current fashion trends, and point out some shiny, obscure baubles to add to the latest hat line.

This puts a whole new spin on 'kill first, ask questions later.'
[spoiler]Masculine men like masculine things. Masculine men are masculine. Therefore, liking masculine men is masculine.

I dare anyone to find a hole in that logic.
