[3.P] Binding outsiders to your service
« on: July 09, 2011, 12:48:35 AM »
Let us assume that PC is neutral and some kind of caster. I want to bind to my service at least 2 outsiders, a succubus and an erinyes. Is Planar Binding the fastest way to do this?
If yes then how can I do it with minimum risk and cost? Not totally minimum, mind you, just so it is reasonable and worth it.
If there is a better way, then what is it?
"I'm done thinking for today! It's caused me enough trouble!"
"Take less damage to avoid being killed."
"In the arena of logic, I fight unarmed."

Or you could just be a cleric of an ideal. Like, physics and say that the domain choices reflect potential and kinetic energy.

Plus, where other clerics say "For Pelor," "For Nerull," or "For Crom?" You get to say, "FOR SCIENCE!" *fanfare*

I know your game, you just want a magical Amazon.com to knock off those good ol' honest magic shops run by polite, old wizards!
Use Iron Heart Surge on the sun. That'll teach him to use fluff as RAW.

Damn you! You totally ruined my build that was all about getting epic far shot early and throwing my enemies into the sun!

Heightened Magic Circle and Dimension Lock/Dimensional Anchor, along with some glyphs you've made. Fear and whatnot. Then hit it with as many debuffs as you can, while using an eternal wand of Glibness. Then use your buffs and its debuffs to charm (not the spell) the hell out of it. Make perma-friends with it, and give it the 'deal' of following you as your loyal minion for the remainder of your life.

In exchange, you'll grace it with your presence.

I'm forced to agree that the planar binding rules are just screaming for you to rain debuffs and mindrapes on the target and turn them into their slaves.

Altough tecnically glibness won't give you any advantage as the deal you have to cut is a charisma check, not a bluff check. If your DM lets you get away with diplo/bluffmancers, then binding will be the least of their problems.

Do note that they're still creatures, and as such, you can Diplomance them however you want and just forgo the Cha check. If they're fanatical to you, they'll gladly forgo trying to match wills with you.

Says who? Nothing in the spell description or diplomacy rules says the binded creature will ever forgo the cha check. It's part of the magic contract. You can't just ignore the clauses that aren't convenient to you.
Does it matter if they do? They're fanatic to you by that point. They'll do whatever you want them to anyway.

To elaborate, you can, as a general rule, choose to voluntarily fail a check. If the bound Outsider is Fanatic to the caster they'll agree to voluntarily fail their end of the Charisma check at the drop of a hat.
It's all about vision and making reality conform to your vision. By dropping a fucking house on it.

But then your hat would be dropped. Totally not stylish.

It would be preferable to diplomance them and then release them from the trap without establishing the binding. No duration and no worries about the clauses like no unreasonable demands, which is pretty much the only kind of demand a diplomancer knows.

If we're talking about a paranoid wizard, a tinfoil hat is appropriate.

Bind a Kockrachon (BoVD), kill and animate it as a Bone\Corpse creature via "create undead". Have it produce infinte amounts of liquid pain and pay them with it. No big deal

Bind an efreeti. Say you'll make one wish for it for every two wishes it grants you.

Hey, it wouldn't get ANY otherwise.
