alternative necromancer
« on: July 08, 2011, 09:41:04 AM »
Someone wants to make a necromancer but we didnt want to have all the work of keeping track of all the generic undead from create undead etc spells. so i was thinking of somehow making an alternative class feature to give an undead but treat it sort of like a druid's animal companion or something becuase i dont see that really being more powerful than having an army of undead made by someone with all the corpsecrafter feats since they would only be allowed the one?

I'd suggest just using Animate Dead and only animating things that are big and beefy. That's generally a lot better than having a horde of weak undead, anyway.

There is also this wizard variant: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/specialistWizardVariants.htm#skeletalMinion
[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

Since they're not being allowed to Command Undead or cast some of their most useful spells, anyway, just give them the minion for free.  Other extras to compensate for the loss of later abilities are having the minion Awakened for free (gaining Feats), more interesting skeletons (such as Ogres or Trolls), the Unholy Toughness ability, and free Corpsecrafter feats (only applying to the minion).
